Big yikes on the specs. Should be running Chrome OS with the 4020.

Considering the specifications, and despite the packaging, this really is more of a right price than slick deal. This device wants to position itself as a competitively priced Surface clone. However, the 2-core Atom-based N4020 CPU inside limits the performance of this device to something like the older 4-core Atom-based Surface 3 (which, unsurprisingly, also often pops up in the $100-200 range these days). The Surface Go 2 value tablets still nab over $300 these days, but their super-efficient m3-8100 and Pentium Gold 4425Y CPUs stomp all over the Atom-based CPUs in this deals because despite their power and core-count limitations they at least start with full i-series cores. Of course, their performance advantage doesn't actually recommend them as daily driver PCs for much...

Simply because a CPU can run Windows doesn't mean that CPU should be used to run Windows. I don't mean to suggest this computer is broken, but I would suggest that anyone shopping for a general-purpose daily driver PC could be making better investments despite the tempting price points manufacturers have achieved with CPUs like the one in this device.

Many of these ultra-low power CPUs were originally intended for embedded applications and not as general purpose computers. However, since these CPUs are also fully compatible x86 CPUs - and cheap ones at that! - manufacturers could pump out PCs at new amazing price points. Too bad that for the buyer the experience was never going to be particularly good when using a CPU better suited to digital signage than rendering video in Windows using Adobe Premiere (or Minecraft, or video conferencing with grandma, etc.).

Additionally, Windows doesn't really perform well anymore at 4GB. More than half of the RAM space can be consumed at idle after booting up(!) - and in a 4GB PC this is incomplete as Windows is forced to limit how much of the operating system is loaded into RAM to conserve space. Paired with a weak CPU this just creates a negative feedback loop wherein your first application loaded after booting up starts demanding loads of page file/virtual memory/SSD-storage-as-RAM and the CPU to service those requests was already being overtasked with the basics of running Windows. Windows PCs limited to 4GB, especially those not equipped with 4-core i-series CPUs, are better suited to power users who can make the appropriate optimizations (possibly including removing Windows for a Linux operating system).

Good luck!
Jon

I'd compare this to a laptop with comparable specs (typically around $100) and then add a $100 premium for the tablet form factor, the 1920x1200 touchscreen, and the inclusion of the keyboard.

At the same time, there's an HP deal on in another thread with almost universally better specs (though still nothing to write home about / buy for grandma) at the same price.

Good luck!

I picked this up for $100 a few months ago and I'd say it's good for that price to stream videos and run the occasional program I don't want to install on my work laptop (car diagnostic tools, Calibre library, etc.)

I wouldn't recommend it if you actually plan to use it daily or even weekly.

This type of stunt is why "windows" get a bad name from the average joe/jane.

If you plan to use as a Chromebook replacement in Window S mode this would actually be a fantastic device. Windows touch controls are a bit iffy though to ever use it detached.

That's the one with 64GB storage, not 128GB.
