You can generate points with this card more easily but AMEX has better lounge access. Boils down to do you how much do you travel.
annual fee is 550
It has never been 120k. The highest it's been is 100k

I have Chase Preferred and when I tried applying for reserve it failed, I called customer service and they said I need to cancel and wait for 30 days to reapply for reserve to get 80k bonus points.

If I already have a Chase Sapphire Preferred, can I upgrade to this and get the deal without having to apply for a new credit account?

So if you get this card right away, you have to pay the $550 annual fee in the first month. According to this CC offer statement: "$300 Annual Travel Credit as reimbursement for travel purchases charged to your card each account anniversary year", you can receive a $300 reimbursement for travel charge you pay in 2022. Also you can receive another $300 reimbursement for the travel charge you pay in 2023. On top of that you receive $1200 worth of points to make travel related purchases. So long as you cancel the card within one year your return is $1200 + $300 + $300 - $550 = $1250. Does my math sound right?

Or you don't receive the $300 travel reimbursement until you stay on this account for at least one year. By that time you've already pay two annual fee of $1100 and your return becomes:
$1200 +
$300 - $1100 = $400???

The travel credit is based on anniversary now (used to be calendar year) but technically you can swing the scenario you said because you can still cancel the cars after next year's annual fee posts. There's usually a 30 day grace period of cancelation where they will refund the annual fee.

For those having second thoughts because of CSR high fees.
I now Instead switched to Chase Preferred + Venture X.
You will get joining bonus for both.
Chase preferred is 95 annually and has $50 hotel benefit so effectively $45
Venture x is 395 but 300 travel reimbursement and 9500 points credit annually so effectively 0.

You get all benefits of CSR plus more transfer partners + both portals + lounge access for complete family plus savings of over $200 in annual fees.
It's a win win

Thumbs up/rep if you found this useful.

Good to know. I'm planning on trying this card for a year. If I feel like it's not working out I'll jump to venture X to try.

Is it true that you have to book all travel using the Capital One travel portal to qualify for the $300 travel reimbursement? With the CSR, you can book travel from anywhere and get the $300 travel reimbursement.

Maybe I am doing something different. Have added as AU in most of my cards and she has at least been approved (more recently this one).

Why not Capital one Venture X? Similar benefits with 395 AF?

You can only hold one sapphire card. If you want to apply you need to downgrade your csp. Then wait 30 days to reapply. And you can't get the bonus if you've gotten in in the last 48 months.

Did you get the points added to your account yet?

Hey buddy, just wanted to update you and let you know that I hit my 4k spend and even though my portal says that I earned the 60k points sign up bonus, it shows I have 80k additional points pending instead. They should get added after my next statement.

Initial annual fee charge is a deal-breaker
