Yeah these are very annoying to use. Mine like this has made it out of all my tool bags. Could maybe be used for quick small cuts but I'd rather pick up a folding pocket utility from lowes or HD for a couple bucks more
Just an FYI:
A couple reviews say you have to hold the button the entire time you cut - so the blade retracts as soon as you let go of the button.
I was initially thinking this was like the ones I used at work where the blade would stay extended while it was in, say, cardboard but would retract as soon as it came out of the cardboard.

I have multiple different brands of this style retracting knife, and only time I've had that issue is when I didn't put it back together correctly after changing the blade. Otherwise, there's a locking mechanism to keep that from happening. Of course, if you push down on the button while using it, it'll retract.
Time to open your drawers and take out those cheap knives for utility use. I believe most SDers has spare knives that they bought but forgot where they were.

Once I learned how to use one of these while working for a retailer, I absolutely prefer self retracting blades. I always retract my blades and it's annoying to have to do that extra step each time. Thanks op. Also, there are times where you NEED the blade to lock, so this knife wouldn't work.
