My previous shop vac was from a garage sale as well, I think I got that one for free after buying some other tools - for some reason most people don't want to clean a dirty shopvac (or don't have a compressor that can make cleaning much easier), so they prefer to get rid of old ones and just buy brand new.

I have what I believe is this exact vacuum and it has an input that sucks and an output that blows. It has great suction. My biggest complaint is the way the hoses connect with each other. One side is ribbed and the other has a clasp. Several of the clasps have broken off so I taped them together.
