Do they keep adding stuff to the home screen. Yes
Is if faster than I can disable it. No they come one from 1-3 months and it takes about 30 seconds to disable it.
Is it slow. Yes sometimes it gets slow like many computer devices and a reboot will usually solve it.
Is it stupid? Hardly
When I am ready for bed, I say Alexa "goodnight" It shuts off my TV, receiver, subwoofer, backlight for tv, main light and the ceiling fan. That is not stupid it is ultra-convenient and works flawlessly 98% of the time.
When i need to check my security camera I ask Alexa to show it and I can do it without having to grab my phone and open an app. I have it set so when my garage door is opened it shows me the camera in the garage and then turns off when the door is shut.
I also use it with voice commands for many other IOT devices.
