I own the 14" and have commented on it being a great laptop previously. It's still going strong after 1.5 years as my primary personal laptop and handles PD and DP (dual monitor via a hub) via USB C just fine. Yes it is clunky, but there really isn't anything comparable in the price range for the specs that you're getting.
Gateway is cheap/low end brand
Was interested in this until I saw reviews. Why do so many complain about the screen coming off??? No thanks.

I just received the 14.1" today, build quality is better than I expected. Keyboard is okay, Track pad is more clickly than I'd like, but not a show stopper.

I confirmed it will charge via the USB-C port, as well as power and send video to an external portable monitor.

Unfortunately I can't get it to send the correct signal to my main monitor over USB-C which is a Dell 49' Ultra Wide Quad HD (5120 x 1440). I attempted to update the Intel Iris Graphics driver but it didn't help. Anyone have this working for Quad HD monitors over USB-C? I'm pretty confident the chipset supports video at that resolution over USB-C, so maybe it is a hardware limitation. It does work via HDMI, but I want to just use the single USB-C cable for power + video.

Graphics Output
eDP 1.4b, MIPI-DSI 2.0, DP 1.4, HDMI 2.0b

Execution Units
80

Max Resolution (HDMI)โ€ก
4096x2304@60Hz

Max Resolution (DP)โ€ก
7680x4320@60Hz

Make sure the cables are proper and the power supplied over type c is enough. Also make sure to check if the tv input is not somehow set to some weird color standard or some weird resolution. It should be in auto detect and it should theoretically work just fine...

Thanks for the reply, I tried two different USB-C cables that work on another laptop for the same exact thing and neither worked on the Gateway. The laptop does indicate it is getting a charge, but the monitor just can't find a video signal. I tried Windows 10,11 and Ubuntu and none of them properly detect the Dell U4919dw over the USB-C cable. I even updated to the latest firmware on the monitor with no luck.

Can anyone report if the 15" can charge via usb-c when they get it? Also has anyone found poor build quality/screens popping off out the gate?

Just FYI. One guy in the other thread for this deal had trouble with having it plugged in 24/7. The battery expanded and started popping out of the case. This was the original plan of the folks I got this for, but they end up now unplugging and using it more limited plugged in. Definitely does all the basics very well. I had to set it up for them and it worked quite fast and could do multiple things at once at least with no issues. As long as it lasts its a perfect computer for basic use.
Great info, thanks for letting me know. I will see if I can set the charging to stop at 85% or something.

No problem. If you figure it out could you let me know? I tried for an hour or so but couldn't find a dummy proof management software for that. if there is something out there that is easy It would be great if I could set it up for those using it now.

Has anyone upgraded to Windows 11? Do I need to do anything to make this happen, other than upgrading to Windows 10 - version 21H1?

I got this one about 7 months ago when it was up for a deal. Most of the complaints I heard was the display coming out and the case falling apart. I just use it for a desktop replacement, so it does not move at all.

Lately I found that the boot time of this machine has increased significantly. Will probably have to replace the SSD (if it is not soldered)

BTW: When I purchased it there was no support via gateway website, no drivers, no telephone support. The only option was to return to Walmart within 30 days or buy additional support.

Yes. Just d/l Windows Installation Assistant off microsoft.com and follow the steps. Do all the Win10 updates first. It's free.

Thanks for the follow up! I will try these as well and see if they work. You probably will get a chance before me but I will report back if I manage to do it first!

I would like to update moderators and admins that the price for this laptop on walmart.com is not $299 anymore. The price is now $634.98 .... So it looks like this deal has expired. Please put the "this deal has expired" label on this deal.
