This card is 100% being pushed by VC money, and in fact I've never seen a card pushed so hard. Many people behind it are known in the miles/points world, which is a double-edged sword. They know what people want but because they work for the company, try to make sure it's not "too good" of a deal. That's why they make you use the card for 5 transactions a month before you can earn any points - they want it in your wallet to make sure you use it for other stuff, even though many other cards are better for everyday spending.
For me, the bottom line is there's no sign-up bonus. There are dozens of cards available with a sign-up bonus of $500+ that you can get every 3+ months (or sooner). And it goes without saying if you don't pay rent, this won't help you that much.
If you max out the rent bonus and have no other cards you'd rather apply to, or really value the transfer partners, then it's a good card for you. They have cool promos from time to time as they try to increase their user base.
i have the card as well and i'm watching the points pile up just for paying rent; points that i would not have otherwise and will almost certainly get redeemed on amazon. my only issue is having to make 5 transactions per month....easy to do but more of a distraction that anything. i guess a couple of ice cream cones at mcdonalds, a couple of pizza slices at sams, and a $1 amazon refill works.

Why they are forcing to use credit card 5 times in each statement period for keeping that months points!!!
Have this card and can confirm the points on rent payment remain even if you dont do 5 transactions. Only the points associated to other transaction other than rent payment will get credited if more than 5 transactions are done in a statement period.

Buy i dont want to use for 6 transactions… can we order something and cancel that. Will it be counted?
Just go to Walmart and buy something cheap 6 times. I do that with pet food cans. I get all the purchases for the month complete in one outing at Walmart
You can use the Bilt Mastercard and earn rewards on rent at any property where you can pay by (i) online payment portal (e.g. ClickPay®, etc.), (ii) Venmo or Paypal or (iii) physical check.
how do you do the venmo or paypal method? i only knew about the portal and physical check?
what do you mean "5 small charges".. like something random at Target?
is paying thousand(s) in rent not enough to keep it active?
ultimately i think there is little risk to your account but i prefer not to make any waves. i dont believe they will terminate your account or charge you a fee but you need to use the card for something other than rent in order to keep it alive. this deal is such a no-brainer for me that i don't want to rock the boat by gaming the system. anybody can take 5 minutes and click the amazon reload button 5 times for a penny each and call it a day. then one day if bilt says "sorry we don't need you...." you can't blame anyone.
because the truth is, it's also too easy to put bilt in apple pay or paypal or ebay and every time you run across those small charges (which i have 20 a month), use it. spending $2 at mcdonalds you're not giving up much by not using your 3% visa. if you spend $1 a month at hulu and don't have a forgiving credit card, use bilt.
what i enjoy is my rent is auto-billed to this card, on the 1st and then the bilt mastercard is auto-pay on the 24th so the whole process is fire-and-forget. ach is history. every time i buy something from amazon and i see the listing of payments, i see bilt with $$$ in rewards next to it reminding me of free cash that is building up. just like any other rewards card, if i want to use $20 in bilt rewards and charge $1.15 to the bilt card....kill two birds with one stone. not going to risk it by standing at a walmart self-checkout abusing the process. to be fair, fail the 5 and you just don't get point for any of your transactions but i think you still get points for the rent payment.

What prevents someone renting their own property as both renter and landlord?
Given the 50,000 point earning cap, the max amount you can earn cash back is $500/yr.
