Depending on what you mean by "basic" and what you need to do there are a number of low priced options that might suit your purpose. This is by no means a complete list, but here are a few I've stumbled across and/or purchased in the past:

Single channel basic <5Mhz Kits/Handhelds
- $20-30 - DSO138 https://www.amazon.com/s?k=dso138+oscilloscope ]
- $35 - 138 Pro https://www.amazon.com/LCD-Handheld-Digital-Oscilloscope-Oscilloscopes/dp/B09XWHRFGV ]
- $20-40 - JYEtech DSOShell handheld (kit or assembled) https://www.amazon.com/s?k=dsoshell+oscilloscope ] (I've built this kit - avoid knockoffs if you want to do firmware upgrades)
- $49 - Espotek Labrador https://www.amazon.com/EspoTek-Labrador-Easy-Use-All/dp/B07CVB7ZJG/ ] (I own this - super limited specs, but also tiny postage stamp size and versatile features (multimeter/waveform generator) and can be used with smartphone or web app - I bought this when it was $29 - not sure I'd want to pay the current price)
- $50 - 5Mhz mini oscilloscope https://www.amazon.com/s?k=5+mhz+oscilloscope ]
- $80 - LM2020 / ET828 2-in-1 Multimeter Oscilloscope - https://www.amazon.com/s?k=lm2020+et828 ] (I own this - it's VERY basic but occasionally useful)

- $90 - 5012h 100mhz single channel handheld https://www.amazon.com//dp/B085NPW4W9/ ]

Dual channel 20Mhz+
- $80-100 Hantek 6022 series USB PC oscilloscope https://www.amazon.com/s?k=hantek+6022 ] (Probably the best bang for your buck if you don't mind needing a PC to use it)

As someone else suggested you might find an old CRT-based scope on Craiglist or FB marketplace, but just about every single one I've ever encountered was worn out and needed calibration or a lot of work.

Also, FWIW, I also own the 200mhz 2-channel version of this Siglent and it's excellent.
Lots of options on ebay.
Well, maybe. I bought a TEKTRONIX 2213 2-Channel / 60MHz for $65 a few years ago... seems to work fine.

Any ideas where to find an oscilloscope for like $100? It can be old, but I'm just looking for something basic.

Try Craigslist. You might come across one from an estate sale (i.e. retired engineer) or startup closing sale/giveaway. I've seen few times of old tech instruments being advertised at super low price from an estate sale on CL. My guess is that family members have no use nor interest in using these when their loved ones passed away.

$100 will get you a 'scope that is either broken in some way, out of calibration, or one of those cheap made in China USB 'scope kits.

Triple or quadruple that budget if you want a reliable and accurate one like a Tektronix that has been tested/calibrated and confirmed to be fully functional.

Better deal than last time since the return window is now 90 days if you aren't opening it up immediately!

If you have a university or hackerspace nearby you can occasionally get a good deal when they sell their old ones they replace.

Never in my life would I have thought to see an Oscope on the front page. Nor would I have thought there was so much drama regarding wanting to claim being "first". The community has perplexed me yet again.
