All the smart watches look pretty similar.

After going through two Fitbit Versa 2s in as many years, both of which failed just outside the warranty period, I'm pretty much done with them. I was hoping the Google buyout would lead to some better quality hardware, but now I'm even wary of their new Pixel watch because of it. Really hit or miss whether you get a good Fitbit or not. Guess I just happen to be very unlucky.
Yea my Versa 2 is now 2.5 years old and it's a champ. Replaced band after two years and that's it.

Whereas my Versa 1 died after 1.5 years and I replaced the band 3 times in that span.

Really weird QC with these things. Pixel Watch is the next progression I guess but I've gotten so used to the 5 day battery on these Versas that I don't know if I want to go the charge every day route.

Besides the fact it is a dying ecosystem the major problem with Fitbit these days is that most of the analytics are hidden behind a paywall. So although you get six month free if you own the watch another two years you will be adding an extra $160 to the cost of the watch. Yes you can use the watch with out paying for the subscription just like you can use a Garmin without Garmin Connect. But in both cases you get a crippled experience. So think about that before buying the watch.

Isn't this pretty much dead now that Google got a separate line of Smart Watches?

They are saying they will continue, but knowing Google they will probably add this to the list of things they cancelled. After the Stadia fiasco where they lied, I wouldn't place any trust on what Google says anymore.

I wouldn't say "most" of their analytics are behind a paywall. You can see for yourself - https://www.fitbit.com/global/us/...es/premium

Advanced sleep tracking is the only thing I might find useful, but basic sleep tracking is already pretty good. Everything else is useless for me.

I think they will continue offering Fitbit-specific wearables, at least until Google makes an affordable alternative. The new Pixel watch starts at $349, so there is still a huge market for wearables at much lower price points, especially for kids.

Yeah, I'd rather not be on their waiting to die platform, as if planned obsolesce isn't already a thing, now we got planned obsolesce of brands.

I'm sure their hardware got much better but I had 4 Fitbit charge HRs die within 2 years. They always shipped me a brand new one immediately without question but no more Fitbits for me (first took about a year, two replacements were pretty much doa, last one about half a year).

Might buy this.

Garmin sounds great but the Fitbit app is so easy to use.

I don't like the pay wall for some of the health tracking. Hoping Garmin has a sale on the venu.
Yes, this. I hate that you buy a device to collect certain data...then you have to pay more to get the data your device collects??
