Closest Microcenter to me is about 4 hours away. I cry myself to sleep every time I see awesome deals at their store. I plan to make a field trip there some day.

I managed to secure a reservation a few hours ago when it briefly came back in stock in north Jersey. Worth the 1 hour drive. Can anyone recommend a good air cooler for this combo? I plan on using them in my first gaming rig paired with a mid-tower and RTX 3080 (if those prices ever come down). Possibly this case: https://www.newegg.com/white-frac...6811352151
I went with this, a little pricey but just did Prime95 on all cores/threads and highest on one was 76C.

Anyone else that had haswell or older kind of disappointed? Think I could have ran my 4790k another couple years, not blown away on day to day and gaming performance.

I just picked up my reservation this afternoon from Tustin. I asked the cashier and she confirmed there are 260+ units of the 12700k in stock, even though the website says it's out of stock. I know it's a risk to drive a long way for those that live far away, but it seems like they have plenty of inventory.

If you don't need raw CPU power for something, you won't (and shouldn't) notice it. Day to Day stuff runs fine on just about any mid-range or better CPU released in the last 8 years. Browsing, word processing, email...that probably consumed a small portion of your 4790k. Gaming usually bottlenecks at the GPU unless you're playing low res esoteric stuff. Expecting more than a couple fps improvement with a new CPU is bound to disappoint.

If you encode, do heavy video editing, multiple VMs, or any other workstation type activity, you should notice the speed increase. My encoding is 60 - 70% faster than my 3700x. No, I don't notice much speed change elsewhere. I never maxxed my CPU outside of encode.

I do like having a new non-buggy MB (relatively speaking) now.

Hopefully, you get something out of the new MB. Maybe you can put your old system to new use.

Oh man, I'm sorry they didn't have any motherboards. Maybe they will get a restock soon since Black Friday is only a couple weeks away.

Do you use Handbrake for your encodes? If so, about how long does it take to encode a 2 hour Blu-Ray movie using H.264? My Dell I5 11400 takes about 4 hours and runs all 6 cores at about 100%.

Had to jump on this since it was finally in stock again. Gonna be quite the jump coming from my old i5 4690k to this. We for those wondering, yes the board is DDR4. The cpu is ddr5 capable but the mobo is not.
how is it so far? i have the i5 4690k still and was thinking about getting this deal but felt lazy about redoing my build lol

I think I'm gonna return mine and stick to 4770k I don't game much and just need PC for day trading and web. I'm too lazy to build a new PC and migrate everything.

I do use Handbrake. I never encode to h264...always HEVC. Generally, I'm around 1:1 timewise for 4k compressing to CQ21 Fast Encode.

15 Days return would put you right at BF no?

I really don't think we'll see any crazy deals on 13th gen or 7000 series in the immediate future. Just too new. WIsh you luck.
