The interest to be earned for $20k for this CD is approx. $920. Then you will need to deduct federal and state taxes from $920. Tax amounts depend on your tax brackets. For simplicity, let's use 25% for federal and 9% for state. So your final earned interest will be:

$920 - ($920 x (25% + 9%)) = $607.2

You can use above example to plug in your real tax bracket percentages to get your own number. It's a bit difficult to show the calculation of interest on here but you can find interest calculator on web.
I think by February-March next year we may see peak in interest rates being offered by banks. I would not advise to lock money for long term yet.
I don't have a dog in the race here but out of curiosity I checked the website at the OP's link:

I'm getting 4.85 from them in my savings account that I can withdraw at any time. Why would anyone get this if they can get higher in a savings account where you can access the money at any time?
debt ceiling gets raised and inflation goes down your rate could potentially drop like a rock in the next several months.

rates aren't going much higher from here. If you have money to park that you don't need for a while, best to lock it up.

If anyone is buying treasuries, the next week or two is your best bet given the political theatre that's occurring.

Depending on what someone is after, there are plenty of banks offering high interest savings at rates north of 4% that don't require you to lock into a CD if you end up needing the funds or if rates hike again.

10k electronically, 5k via tax return refund, so unless you are overpaying taxes that's a no go.
Ibond rate is now 3.8%

Strictly FYI. Credit Union's are insured for similar limits (250k) via the NCUA (National Credit Union Association) as opposed to the FDIC.

To recap for best rates:

1) Buy 10K in iBonds (I'm told you can do 10K electronically and an addiitonal 10K in paper bonds)
2) Money above that 10K into the 22 month cd paying 5%. I have a 4% 4 year cd maturing in 2 days so timing on this info was great.
3) Buy 10k more in January of iBonds.

You can get a no penalty CD (you can cash it out at any itme past 30 days) or keep it to maturity and get 14 monthst at 4.75% 12 Months 4.92%. A regular 1 YR CD 13 Months at at least 5.15% and as much as 27 months or more at that rate. When rates start to drop it will be the reverse of how they rose with each meeting dropping them .50 basis points or more. It may take a whole to totally unwind them and this yr its all guesswork. But the smok clears nobody here will mention T-Bills for maybe 10 yrs or more.

On small money it doesnt matter much. But those HYSA when they start dropping the talk will be over. 5% will become 2% in a few months.

Correct. But there is no CD available at Ally where "you can take your money when you need it without penalty" other than the one currently at 4.35%, and definitely not one at 5%.

The statement "Ally offers 5.0 APY no minimum no obligation Cds you can take your money when you need it without penalty" is not correct. That's all I was pointing out. No biggie.

Thanks for the options. If there's a 5% no penalty one at Ally I'd sure like to see it so I can xfer some cash over there.

Check savebetter.com for no penalty cds.

I opened 27month CD with Salliemae from Savebetter for 5.15%. Very good experience with minimal info to open account.

That's best rate I was able to find for long term CDs. I wish something >5% I can find for 5+ years.

Don't really have plans for the money.
Nasa has 9months at 5.5% or 15 months at 5.3%.
What would be the most ideal? Lock in for 15 months since rates may not be the same in 9 months when it matures? Or rates going to keep going up so on 9 months it won't be a problem to find something better?

If you definitely don't need the money I would do 15 months.
