fwiw, there's a positive Wirecutter review [nytimes.com] of this specific model, F515EA-OS33

CPU Benchmark [cpubenchmark.net] for Core i3-1115G4 - CPU Mark of 6230, single thread rating 2687 seems fine for this type of computer

Display is 1920x1080. I can't find much about the specifics of the display, other than the Wirecutter review calls it decent and recommends this model. Another site said it was IPS on the similar F515EA-AH34 model.

Backlit keyboard

128GB SSD is small, but enough for Google classroom type uses - where you don't have a lot of installed programs or files stored.

This previous +7 thread on the F515EA-AH34 model says RAM is 4GB soldered, 4GB DIMM. Better than a single stick for what I need, not planning to upgrade.

Obviously if you can wait for a better deal at BF etc there may be one.

Nothing can beat the $199 deal at similar price point with 256GB storage for the same model in the past

Unless the laptop your kid is using died and you need a replacement now. Then now is better.

And see this link for what seems like a much better deal:

I'm unclear after reading the specs if this in any way can be hooked up with an Ethernet cable. I have to have that for my work.

For years Intel kept i3 so gimped. And this one at 2 core is behind its contemporaneous AMD counterpart. It will do things but for the price you can get better performance. The Office Depot deal is way better except for not having a backlit keyboard. Spec wise HP laptop with Ryzen processor will blow this one out of water while costing a Jeffy less.

It shows $279 for me right now (5:49AM EST Monday 11/7/22). Sometimes they have different prices depending on where in the country you are.

A cheap USB3 to Gigabit Ethernet adapter will work just fine.

Dozens of inexpensive devices to choose from.
