For reference, I have compared this soundbar to Sonos, Bose, JBL, and LG. All flagship models with Dolby Atmos. In terms of overall sound quality, the Bose sounded best to me and LG the worst. In music, Bose and Sonos are unparalleled. Samsung is the worst. In movies and TV shows, especially with Atmos content, Samsung was noticeably better. The surround effects are also crazy, very close to the dedicated HT system. Since I was going to use this for movies and TV shows, it was a no-brainer to go for Samsung over others. Samsung was also the cheapest, given that it already came with a sub and surround speakers.
Overall, I am fairly happy with the soundbar. The Q-symphony feature with Samsung TV actually makes a difference. It adds to the soundstage and overall immersion, and would highly recommend trying it out if you have a Samsung TV. Although, I have read mixed responses about it since it depends a lot on your TV speakers. At least QN90A and QN90B in larger sizes (65+) seem to have better than average speakers, so that helps. According to AVForums, it works best with Samsung 8k flagships.
One major issue with this soundbar, though. Sending in uncompressed audio (passthrough) can, at times, cause glitches like audio skips. On my unit, at least every once in a while, the chipset heats up and is no longer able to play lossless audio. HDMI passthrough also stops outputting 10-bit video. The fix is to turn the soundbar off for a few minutes allowing it to cool down. The issue has not been a huge PITA for me to try a warranty replacement which btw sucks. They ask you to ship the whole soundbar with no option for in-home repair or pickup. The soundbar is huge, so makes it difficult to ship.

I'm sure there are pros and cons with each, but I was on the fence about spending up on a soundbar setup anyway, so this was a good compromise for me.

That said, supposedly Dolby Atmos music is amazeballs. I haven't messed with it yet, but I probably will once this soundbar shows up. There are of course pre-requisites and it is more of a novelty since the Atmos catalog is quite small, but if the music you like is in that catalog then it might be worth a shot: https://www.dolby.com/experience/music/
All of that said, another option that is way easier is using headphones
Lastly as for the q800 sound bar…it's a beast. It auto connected to my tv once I turned it on including the subwoofer. I'm using it in a room with 20ft ceilings and open floor space. Still works really well. Felt like I was at the movies (within reason) The added rears which I opted out of are mainly for ambient sounds. The reviews on the 9500s speakers are not the best either. However if u want full blown surroundd setup the rears are needed. Just depends on your needs and I find they look stupid sitting behind you. You'll have to either mount them or buy stands. Also still need to be plugged in.
Lastly regarding Q symphony (another pain in the ass) I found it only works 2 ways which is annoying as fk. First once again you must be connected to hdmi cables. OR you run it via Wi-Fi which will eliminate the cables but is problematic in terms of setup. You have to have the tv connected to Wi-Fi so no more hard wire Ethernet which I personally use. Second you need to go through the hassle of downloading Samsung smart things, creating an account, sharing information, then adding devices. What a crock. Yes this applies to ALL the Q series sound bars FYI.
