Assuming you purchase a Cellular watch you will need cellular service. T-Mobile offers $5 a month if you bring your phone otherwise $10 a month and then you get a half price phone. Have been told that there will be an even better deal on Black Friday so I guess I am waiting for this better deal

Having a cellular version in no way forces you to activate it. I'm not saying to buy the watch for resale value over a GPS only model, cause resale value on Apple Watches is terrible. But it doesn't hurt to have the cellular version, as it gives you the flexibility to turn it on (or off) whenever you'd like.

No, the real reason to buy a cellular Apple Watch is that it allows you to contact emergency services even if you don't have a cellular plan on it. If you are in an accident or in a dangerous situation, you can 'press and hold' the side button to summon help.

Can also make 911 calls without a plan. peace of mind for emergencies

I got the open box deal from woot last week on same 45mm LTE. for $309. Came perfect condition. Hawking my series 6 on ebay. I stay 1 gen behind and usually trade up every other year for about $100 additional
