At first glance, this just seems like a slightly worse version of the Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 that Best Buy is currently selling for $550 https://slickdeals.net/f/16124230-lenovo-ideapad-gaming-3-laptop-15-6-1080p-ryzen-5-5600h-8gb-ram-rtx-3050-ti-550-free-shipping as this has a very, very slightly better CPU. but a slightly worse GPU for $50 extra. The big difference, however, is that this version comes with a 170W AC adapter as noted here: https://smile.amazon.com/ask/ques...pmw_al_hza This is actually a pretty big deal as these laptops need significantly more than 135W at max settings (which is what the Best Buy version's charger supplies) and the 170W chargers can cost between $70 and $90 from Lenovo. This is definitely worth some consideration if you're interested in the Best Buy Lenovo imo.

My strategy has been to buy one now and return it if a better one comes up later. The Walmart rtx 3060 for $600 that sold out in 2 hrs could come back as a BF door buster.

On the same link to the Amazon page for this computer, there is another Lenovo that suits me better at $799 (on sale from $1,099). It has the i7 Intel 12th Gen processor, much faster than the Ryzen 5, depending which test they run.
It also comes with 512gb storage, up from 256gb. Strangely, the 8gb ram remains same.
The most notable addition of this laptop is its Thunderbolt 4 port. I already have a thunderbolt docking station and all the thunderbolt cables, so it makes my life much easier only needing to run 1 cable wire to the dock. Not to mention how blazing fast it is with external drives.
Another small difference. This model has the RTX 350 Ti. The $599 model has the RTX 350.

I believe everything else is the same.

It came down to this or a slightly upgraded version, the $170 diff to get more cores and 8% better gpu didn't do it for me, so bit on this one.

I notice many different types of ideapad gaming 3 laptops. There is amazon, microcenter, best buy etc. Do all have the same 45w battery? Also is the battery very poor? How it is a ryzen 5. I seen other same laptops with ryzen 7 6800 or intel processor. So the battery would last longer on the ryzen laptop? Also isn't 45w battery way too small? Even certain laptops that have like 52.5w battery are very low... how can a laptop battery be only 45w that low?

But since it is ryzen, could it last long though?

Excellent point!!

I have the Best Buy version with 135w AC adapter and when playing Forza Horizon 5, the battery will drain at a rate where I'll get about 4 or so hours while plugged in. When not gaming, the AC adapter is enough to power the machine, no issues.

170w did improve this, but it still drains while gaming plugged in ($30 Amazon [amazon.com]). I don't know how, maybe the adapter isn't legit?? I need to investigate more or step up to a 230w AC adapter, but I haven't made that investment yet to test.

I don't really plan (or have the stamina, lol) to game more than 4 hours at a time, so wondering if I wanna spend $100 on a legit/well reviewed 230w adapter.

Notes:
  • I added RAM (16GB total) and an additional SSD (2.25TB total) to my laptop, so It uses slightly more wattage than the stock version.
  • Both laptop GPUs, though different models, have a TGP of 85w at full power. Same goes for CPUs, at a TDP of 45w each.

A non-AC adapter note: I want to say that I absolutely adore this laptop for its keyboard. It has my favorite feel and layout with a number pad, full size arrow keys, and full size shift button. As someone who uses Word and Excel a lot, I really appreciate this keyboard. It's to the point where I won't even consider a laptop without a similar layout because of the negative typing experience I'm going to have. A++ for this laptop in this category.
Could you tell me how hard it was to open the bottom to do the RAM and SSD upgrade? One site said it was "difficult". TIA.

I didn't find it any more difficult than other laptops. Of course, the more times you do it, the easier it gets and you get an understanding of how much force is typically needed to pry off the bottom.I always use a prying tool (a small triangle shaped one) when opening up a laptop.

Hope this helps!

Thanks. I think I found a YouTube video of it. Not sure if you can confirm.

Ah okay, the version I have from Best Buy is slightly different and doesn't have the plastic shroud on the bottom as the one in the video. But the video seems pretty straightforward: unscrew the proper screws and use a prying tool.I can't say how hard that actually is though because I don't have that exact laptop.

$800 for a 3050 ti is very steep. Newegg has a deal on Gigabyte A5 k1 $730 with RTX 3060 130W

Here's a review of this exact laptop:
https://www.notebookcheck.net/Ryz...422.0.html

(notebookcheck is one of the best sources because they're super detailed)

Scroll down to the battery life section. They're seeing around 6 and a half hours with normal web surfing, which is pretty darn good for a gaming laptop. That said, they also report seeing a bug with the "Lenovo Quiet mode", some kind of extra power saving mode, with excessive power usage. So I guess, just not use that special mode until it gets fixed or something.

Deal is still on. Max ram is 16gb (2x8gb) DDR5 4800. I bought 5 for my teens and preteens. I hope they appreciate them.
