Yes, this is compatible with the playstation PS5, but you'll need a heat sink.
Technically the speeds are just shy of what Sony recommends (this SSD is 5,000 Mbps sequential read, vs. recommended 5,500 Mbps) but reviews report it works fine.
Here's a cheap heat sink that should work with this, getting you 1TB for a PS5 at a combined total of $82.97 plus tax.

Thanks, OP!
Anyways, I personally would say it's overkill for game storage, better for a main drive. You really won't be able to appreciate the speed difference with gen 4 for just games, even SATA SSD vs nvme has barely a perceptible difference in loading times, and that's 10x slower than this drive.
For storage purposes, I would rather get more storage for the same price with a gen 3 drive, which will also run cooler and use a little less energy.

Forget the words external SSD, you will be limited to the speed of USB. The expansion port on the PS5 is considered internal. You will be limited to the speed of the actual SSD.

As far as use with a PlayStation, the rear PS5 USB ports, which are recommended for use with external storage, are 10 gbps ports. https://www.playstation
To confirm: Yes transfer speeds on SSD would be faster, but limited to the bottleneck of where you are transferring to/from.

See above. ^ (Games played off an SSD, even an external one, will load faster and transfer faster between drives if you find that necessary.)
