It sounds like you're lucky to be alive. I always tell my hubby that if I go into the hospital, he will at least go to CVS to use all my ecbs, even if he buys only junk, though with as serious as yours was, I don't know if my hubby would think to even pay our bills!

Something you said made me think of an italian place in Westlake Village I absolutely adored when I was traveling for business. It was off of Agoura Road and Village Glen, across from a CVS near a Popeyes, but I just checked google maps and it appears it is gone. They had a small mom and pop grocery, a case with italian sweets and a small restaurant seating area. I usually bought calzones or something with italian sausage because the pizzas were just too big for one person.

It's actually been 4 heart attacks. I had the first one in early Oct. They did an angiogram and 2 of my arteries were completely closed and the 3rd was 80% closed. They were going to wait a couple of months to do open heart surgery but I had another episode the night before I was going to be discharged and they decided to do it right away. They took a vein from my leg to replace the 2 arteries that were closed. I was in the hospital for around a month and finally they let me go home. I had fainting spells sometimes as much as 20 times a day. I never actually passed out but I was this close. I had trouble walking anything more than 50 feet. They changed my medication and 3 days later I was able to walk a mile. I walked every day rain or shine and worked it up to 5 miles. To make a long story short, the 2 new arteries closed and they had to put in a stint. I've had 2 more episodes, 2 more angiograms, and multiple hospital stays. They put me on plavix after the stint and I had a horrible reaction to it. They switched me over to brilinta and that causes me extreme shortness of breath which is one of the worst feelings you can ever have. I've been out of the hospital since Friday a week ago. I still have the fainting stuff every now and then. The extreme shortness of breath is all of the time and chest pain is all of the time. I can only walk a mile now and it's not any fun because it takes everything I have to do it. I'm not sure what's going to happen from here on out. All I can do is to take my meds, go on my walks, and try to follow my heart diet. I'm not doing a very good job of following my diet. I was at first but it's really hard.
I can soooo relate to your statement "I'm not doing a very good job of following my diet, but it's really hard" I have PAD, and have three stents in one of my legs. I have always had a sugar addiction I think, which the liver turns to fat and releases into the blood stream, and joins cholesterol to become plaque in the arteries.
I love my sweets, and Coke, and it is unbelievably hard to stay away from them.

Relating to the diet talk.

I am coming up on my 5 year keto anniversary this year.

I had bad acid reflux and was overweight which led me to change my diet. I lost 77lb and am doing great. February I am going carnivore to do an elimination diet to see if I can figure out some tummy issues I still have. I feel like I am going to miss some things I have most days. olives, pickles, sauerkraut, and homemade kombucha.

I waited 2 days to go to the hospital when I had my first heart attack because I thought it was acid reflux. My heart attack happened at 10 pm and I went thru hell that night. I went to Rite Aid as soon as they opened and got some Pepcid. Believe it or not, it worked and I felt a thousand percent better but the next day I felt really bad and knew it wasn't acid reflux and finally went to the ER. My troponin level was around 5000 when they did my lab work. Moral of the story - go to the hospital.
It is interesting that you say that bc my reflux presents like a heart condition
tight chest etc.

I have since got a CAC and it came back -0- so I feel comfortable no heart condition worries.

Was it Charming?

Charming is actually Tujunga. The clubhouse is in North Hollywood and New Charming is in Montrose. It's funny how Norcal was all shot in Socal.

Somebody on Reddit said that Charming was really Farmington. Have you been there?

Does Farmington have a Rite Aid? lol

PS There used to be a hole in the wall Mexican place in Temple City called Taco Villa. Anna was the owner and she did all of the cooking. It was the best Mexican food I've ever had by far. I always got a burrito. Her hot sauce was called rocket fuel (JPL was close by) and it could put you into orbit. It would've been worth the drive from Norcal to go there. Her food was that good. One day I made the long drive out there and she was gone. I guess that she retired. She said that she constantly got offers to buy her out but she never would do that.
Oh, my, Pickle- you've been through the mill and I'm glad you're here to tell your story.

There wasn't much Charming about my hometown, Lakeport "on the shores of beautiful Clear Lake" (which is old, algae-y and NOT clear). Lake County made some news in the fires, but it's basically a hick town north of Napa.
Wineries have come to the area so it's a bit more sophisticated, but I don't think the population has grown much. Windy roads to get in/out of there.
All 84 of my graduating class seem to still be in touch with each other and a lot still live there! I think Lakeport (the county seat) was a bit like Mayberry while I lived there, while some of the other towns are...not.

Highest percentage of alcoholism per capita in the state.

I DO remember when they got the first chain restaurant, it was a huge deal and unemployment was so high they had way more applicants than positions. Before that, it was ALL mom & pop, except where I worked (Safeway). Getting in with (at the time) national chain was my ticket out of there. I could transfer within the company.

I hope you have the same lovely weather in socal we're getting here, so you can have a nice walk today Hug2

I go to the Westlake CVS every now and then but Popeyes and the Italian deli don't ring a bell. Kanan is a few miles east of Westlake and there's a great Italian deli just north of the freeway. It's called Italia and has outdoor seating and a little market. There's a CVS in the same shopping center. Just across the street is a Rite Aid and Ralphs. I've had really good
luck at that Ralphs with some amazing clearance finds. If you ever get out to the CVS in Malibu, the store manager's name is Phil and he's a super nice guy and great surfer.
I looked it up, I've been to that CVS and Vons before, but I don't remember there being an Italian deli there. The CVS I was referring to is on the south side of the freeway, closer to the golf course.

You really have been through a lot Pickle. Glad you are here with us, you are adding bits of comedy and knowledge.

I'm going to be tacky and change the subject to the most shallow of shallow things: Hair Coloring. My hair is medium to dark brown (and has been colored with a wide assortment of drugstore hair dye). Can I use a Swarzkopf blond (says it lifts color 6 shades or something) for chunky highlights? I'm not picky about the results. And if it is too crazy, can I then use another brown over it? Will the highlights still show a bit, since I will have "lifted" the color in those areas?
