@Serra, what's the best you've seen (that might still be available) to Hawaii from the West Coast?

so it depends what type of cruise you prefer (family, luxury, ultra-luxury, party, etc) and travel seasons (peak, low, etc), category, duration. each black friday offers something different. some have % off, some include things like tips, some have 3rd/4th guest free or discounted, kids sail free. so it depends.

these cruise lines sail in hawaii and having their black friday sale. maybe see what offer is most important to you and your needs, go from there.

holland america [hollandamerica.com]

royal caribbean [royalcaribbean.com]
carnival [carnival.com]
disney [go.com]

sorry, i wasn't that helpful. those links will go directly to hawaii as the destination though laugh out loud

Excuse me for being a cruise virgin and probably being a little ignorant but you're on a damn ship in the middle of the ocean if your room doesn't have a view of the ocean what are you looking at like the inside of a wall? There's like no windows? It just seems kind of silly as I visualize it in my head

It depends on the cruise line and ships. In the recent years, some of the Carnival ships use the roll-away bed for extra passengers. Stay away from this type of room because the beds are tiny and extremely uncomfortable. Here are some suggestions:
- For a family of 4, I would strongly suggest you get a balcony room or at least an oceanview room. You will feel very cooped up in an inside room. Most of the time the cost difference is not a lot between balcony, oceanview, and inside rooms. You can also save money with the "obstructed balcony room".
- Look into different accommodation options. For example, I am a family of 4 with two adult daughters. In my most recent cruise in October, I ended up booking 3 rooms for 4 passengers. My wife and I took a balcony room, and each of my daughters get their own inside staterooms. The total cost is about the same for my family of 4 staying in one balcony room where as we booked 2 additional inside rooms for my daughters. The cost difference between single versus double occupancy for inside room was less than $100 per room. In the meantime, we received $100 onboard credit for each of my daughters' rooms. The bottom line is it cost about the same for booking one balcony room for 4 passengers versus 3 separate rooms for 4 passengers as I mentioned above.
- Each adult may need to pair up with one kid if your children are under age and you want to book separate rooms. They don't care if you switch passengers in your rooms once you are onboard. Make sure you book adjacent rooms or in the close proximity.
- If you are prone to sea sickness, try to book room close to the center of the ship. The ideal room is deck 6 mid-ship. Avoid too high or too low and too far in the front.

Try out with a 5 to 7 days cruise if this is your first time. You would not have a good cruise experience if it is too short (I hate boarding and disembarkation).

You can google different website for stateroom condition. Here's one of the website you can check: https://www.icruise.com/cabins/pr...-E310.html

Have fun!
thanks, this is exactly the info i am looking for.

My God just reading your post has my adrenaline flowing... And it's funny now as I'm typing this I've always thought growing up that I had some sort of phobia of cruise ships.
every time i'm in visual distance of humongous freaking boats I get this weird feeling of anxiousness and its almost like I could pass out from it you know.
I wonder if it really is a phobia since don't think I could ever in a million years step foot on a big, freeking existing...entities ahh it's just so bizarre to me. every time I hear they're freaking blow horns here in New York City since you could hear that from all over the place it's just so bizarre the like the most terrifying looking things. I wouldnt step foot on the USS intrepid docked here in Hell's kitchen even if u paid me.
I don't even know how to explain it...

Wow.. I need a drink after that post haha

The single occupancy trick is not always true. Some trips they will charge you for double occupancy. It depends whether it is a peak period cruise or not.

I think the tip on the balcony is good, but to be honest, I have had no issues with a single inside room for a family of 4. When are you in the room anyway? To sleep, to change.. That's about it. I have found it to be a waste IMO, but you have to look at the prices.

Finally, after you book direct, call the vacation planner line at 800-901-1172 in the coming weeks. Tell then you don't have a planner and was hoping they can look at your reservation to apply the best discounts. You will save even more money.

What's the crowd like on a Princess cruise (families, kids)? I'm a single guy, just looking for a good time if you know what I mean.

You probably want Carnival and not Princess. Crowd tends to be older. Non peak cruises are average age of 60.

If I'm on a cruise, I'm typically not in my room unless it is to sleep or shower. Literally all my other time is occupied by being on the top decks where you can see the ocean, or going to some sort of event like comedy shows and stuff like that, or eating. I always cheap out on the room because I don't need/want it.

I hear you... I have severe acrophobia. I would freeze up even looking down from a 3-story balcony. My daughter took me to hike at Beehive trail in Bar Harbor during my last cruise. I was literally holding on to the metal rods dangling from the mountain cliff. I am still not sure how I made it through the entire trail EEK!

Is there any way to find out where the cruise launches from? My wife refuses to fly and I'm in Ohio so Florida is way too far of a drive.

It says it on every itinerary. That being said, Carnival or Royal Caribbean from Baltimore is likely your best option. Princess doesn't leave from Baltimore

Here's the website I use the most: https://www.vacationstogo.com/

On the left of the screen, you can set different criteria such as month, region etc. to select the cruise of your choice. You can also filter the list by low to high prices.

My choice of room type is usually based on price difference and the number of "sea day" (no port stop). It does not make much difference for the room type if there is no sea day since you only use your room mostly night time.

Good deals. Usually airfare and obligatory gratuities push cruises to be more expensive than an All inclusive resort
Ppl usually pick resorts because the booze is free.
