Is the price likely to drop further in the coming months?

I'm building a PC, but it won't be usable until I can get the GPU I want if/when its price drops within my budget. I don't want to buy this drive now and then see it go on a deeper sale while mine is still sealed in the package.

I would say yes. The price of SSD has been declining due to oversupply. But you are only to save $10 more say the SSD price drops 10% further.

The 2tb of this same drive has been going for $169 on Newegg and Microcenter last couple days.

I've owned for about 6 months, great drive and ready for directstorage

The 2tb is $179 and $189 if you want the heat sink version. A little more but at least you can return easily.

I'm returning the WD SN850x I just bought two weeks ago for $250 and replacing with this 2 tb version. Amazon makes it easy to return when you find a cheaper price

B&H price matched it and has a $25 off $250 offer for AMEX users (must be added to your CC through AMEX). Can't imagine this going much further below $99 for BF? I know the 990 Pro was just released, but still.

I think this is the bottom for a while. I would go with 2tb for $180 tho.

Is the Pro better than the standard 980? It's currently $80 on Amazon so debating the two.

It's pcie 3.0 vs 4.0 essentially. Depends on your use case but most likely you won't notice the difference.
