Instead of just saying, hey buy this phone outright and we'll give you this gift card for this much.. But no, they make this as confusing af so carriers still win in the end.

If they have not changed the process for this year, you will get the Walmart gift card emailed to you within 24-48 hours after purchase. I have upgraded this exact way 3 years in a row via Walmart because I have an old grandfathered ATT plan and do not want it changed or touched. This is the probably one of the few retailers besides ATT Corporate stores that can do upgrades or add lines without changing your current plan.

In 2019 I lined up in store and purchased 2 phones in store. It was $350 actual gift cards back then, they were loaded and activated at the time of phone purchase but they said the funds should be available after 4 hours back then.

In 2020 I did 2 lines again but it was only $300 gift cards but via email. The emailed gift cards and PIN codes came in a few hours after the phone purchases.

In 2021 I got smarter. I booked each phone's activation appointment 1 day apart. This time I upgraded 3 lines. The first $300 credit came in within 2 hours of paying for the first phone upgrade. So for the second phone's activation the next day, I used the first phone's gift card and paid down $300. Same with the 3rd phone upgrade the following day as the second phone's gift card email came in shortly same day after they processed the second activation. Therefore I am left with only 1 $300 gift card to spend later. Yes I went there 3 days in a row, lucky it's only 4 miles away and you get to reserve the phone size and color you wanted on their available phones on-hand list.

You DO NOT get monthly billing credits. This way you are never tied up for 3 years because billing credits balance is forfeited if you cancel or port out. The only situation where you may get billing credits is if you did a trade in and received $800 credit or whatever corporate ATT was promoting. But then you are REALLY tied up for 36 months if you wanted the $800 or whatever the ATT trade in promo was offering. The trade in promo billing credit deal is ONLY worth it if you plan on staying with ATT for 3 years AND if they were giving you $800 for an old cracked phone. I have never done this because the trade in promotions always required a plan change for me. Sorry I can not shed any light on this type of deal stacking as I do not want my grandfathered plan changed. Perhaps someone who has traded in as well as received the $300 gift card can share their experience here.

Please note, you ARE required to do the installment plan. There must be some kind of cell carrier kickback commissions for installment plans along with the line upgrade or new line activation commissions to the retailer. The monthly installment amount to be paid is dependent on how much you pay up front during checkout. So if the phone is $1049 and you pay down $849 plus your state's sales tax on the full amount, it will leave you with a $200 balance due, your monthly installments would be $200/36 months = $5.56 per month.

After 2 billing cycles (probably when the cell carrier commissions are paid due to Net60 terms) you can pay off your remaining balance via the ATT website and then cancel and go to another carrier and request the unlock code via their unlocking portal entering your IMEI number and cell phone number and email address. It usually takes a few days for the unlock email with the codes to arrive, a few times it came same day as submission.

For me I pay them off right before the next year's promos and request the unlock, unless I need a phone to be unlocked sooner due to international travel etc, then I would pay off that line ASAP as it may take a few days to process the unlock. Once the installments are paid off, I can quickly upgrade again via Walmart Black Friday promo, wash, rinse and repeat.

So to sum it up, you will receive your $300 gift card via email shortly after the phone purchase and activation. If you want the phone unlocked as soon as possible, do not do trade in billing credits and be tied up for 36 months. Pay down as much as you can at the time of purchase. Pay off the remaining balance after 2 billing cycles and request the unlock. For iPhones you do not have to do anything after requesting the unlock. Once you receive the email that it has been approved, just insert your non-ATT SIM card and it will re-activate the phone via Apple's server and it will be unlocked permanently, it will reboot, and probably automatically do a carrier settings update right after.

Is there a way to activate the 14 series via customer service using a different imei2 so the phone box stays sealed? At a later date call Verizon again to get a new eSIM to activate the 14 series? Would that impact the 60 day unlocking policy. Not sure what happens if I use a different imei2 (XR) to activate. anybody knows? I am outside of the country right now but really want to get this deal.

so there seems to be a confusion on the trade in deals along with the GC.

What ATT and Verizon offers is totally separate from the Walmart Gift Card.
ATT you get the $800 over 36 months, meaning you're credited monthly for trading in an eligible device.

If you pay off the device early, the credits end so if you want the full 800 credit you need to stay the full 36 months.

Im not quite sure what Verizon does if you pay off the device, but I'm guessing it's the same.

From my experience, T-mobile is the only carrier that continues to give device credits even if you pay it off early. However you need to have the promotion kick in before paying it off so you need to wait 1 or 2 billing cycles.

Lots of confusing information in this thread.

Yes you can stack the deals for AT&T. You go to their trade in site and use the promo code TRADEOFFER22.

https://tradein.att.com/

Note the third option here that specifically states it's for people who already have their new phone:

https://www.att.com/deals/phone-trade-in/

You have to buy a 14 series phone and have a phone of certain value to get bill credits. Max bill credits are $800 if you trade in specific phones. Older or cheaper phones can qualify for $350 in bill credits.

This is separate from the Walmart gift card, but really it's only worth it if you have a cheap or not worth much model to trade in. If you can get a decent amount selling yourself on Swappa then it doesn't make as much sense to lock yourself into 36 months of bill credits (and hope you don't break the phone or want to upgrade again during those 3 years). If you're going to be with AT&T long term anyways then why not get both deals, just know that they're betting on something breaking your cycle of bill credits and then you haven't gotten full value for your trade in.

The fine print:

Promotion value varies by which new device is being purchased and the value of your trade-in device.

Promotion Details as of November 24th, 2022:

Up to $800 max bill credit with purchase of Apple iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, 14 Pro max and trade-in a smartphone valued at or above $130 after condition assessment

Credits start within 3 bills after trade-in is completed and will be applied in equal amounts over the term of installment agreement. You will receive catch-up credits once bill credits start. Credit will not exceed the lower of the device cost or the max credit amount as defined above.
If you cancel wireless service, your credits will end and you'll owe the remaining balance on the installment agreement for the device purchased.
For new lines, if you cancel service on any other line on your account within 90 days of activating the line under this offer, device credits will stop.
If buying on the AT&T Installment Plan with Next Up, customer is responsible and will not receive any credits for the additional $6/mo. Next Up upgrade feature.

If we can't stack 800$ trade in offer, can we return Walmart phone and order immediately with att to avail 800$ offer? Anyone aware if there any restock fees if it's not opened to return to Walmart.
Yes just do not open the phone or anything. Take it into the store the same way you received it. Make sure you have them cancel the pending upgrade on your account. If they are unable to, call ATT or stop at a corp store

are you sure about "Walmart iPhones (unless specifically locked to StraightTalk) are US Flex Lock based activation policy." US Flex Lock based activation policy.because if you put in att sim in verizon phone for the first time and it gets locked to att.att wont be able to see origin of IMEI Number in the system, hence wont be able to unlock
Yes, I'm typing on my "verizon" iPhone 13 pro from walmart on t-mobile.

So I recently ported a number to att and it shows up on my account and upgrade eligible, but when I go to the Walmart site it states, records do not match
Any help, before this gets buried in the thread?

What's the return policy? I ordered a 13 pro max instead of 14 pro max by mistake.

I'm trying to order a Verizon 14. When I try adding Apple Care for it I get a pop-up saying there is a technical issue and to try again later. Anyone else have issues adding Apple Care?
