*Official* Android OS Phone Chat, Questions, & Help Thread -

14,178 1,195 October 22, 2009 at 06:05 PM in Chat
Yahoo!

Our very own thread to discuss and chat about the OS, ROM's, apps from Android Market, our Android phones, tips & tricks, questions, and help issues. With the different phones out now and to be released from various carriers, I figure we all have a lot in common with the Android OS. We can discuss what we like, need help with, what apps are cool or don't work well, as well as questions and help issues. Given that CSR's from the various carriers may know less than we do, this thread is for all of us so we can help one another.

Ok... I've officially found my favorite new keyboard app. I've tried so many, including some pay ones to find something that works. This one works and it's free.

You can type every single letter wrong, but if you are in the vicinity of the letter you are typing, it'll correctly guess the word you are typing. I haven't been able to stump it yet.

Hmmm.....after reading some of the posts in the forum you linked, I'll d/l that one and see if it can beat the native keyboard on the Hero. Because of the Sense UI, the Hero already does this, but who knows, there might be some little part I like better.

HTC Hero having intermittent text messaging problems? [engadget.com]

There's not exactly much in the way of official statements on the matter just yet, but it looks like support forums have been piling up with reports of text messaging problems on the HTC Hero over the past few weeks, and with no signs of a fix in sight. Apparently, the phone can send texts just fine, but runs into a little trouble when it comes to receiving 'em, with most folks reporting only intermittent problems, and at least some not receiving any at all. Interestingly, the problem seems to be occurring in both the US and the UK, so it would seem to be a problem on the phone's end and not the carrier's, and a few people seem to have had some (brief) success after resetting the device. Of course, there are also plenty of folks having no problems at all, but there doesn't seem to be any question that the issue is out there. So, have you been missing some texts on your Hero? Let us know in comments.

I accidentally posted my question in the Verizon thread. Well, here it is again.

Does anyone have the slightest idea how much fees would be if I break a contract?
Currently I am with T-Mobile and I have a Sidekick 08. I got it July 2008 with a 2 yr contract. I am sick of it because of the outage we recently had for over a week and because it simply doesn't do what other phones can now do. I am on my moms plan for minutes and I am considering a MyTouch and I can sell my Sidekick for $100+. I don't think I would buy the phone from T-Mobile if I can find a deal somewhere else. I heard Walmart had them for $50

Didn't MS and T-Mobile give out some money for that outage?

Uhm, and I don't think you can find a myTouch for $50. Is that what you meant?

Roll

ETF is prorated based on where you are in your contract. I'm sure a t-mobile rep would be more than happy to help you out. In my experience t-mobile will bend over backward to keep you as a customer. Explain your dissatisfaction with the sidekick fiasco and if you've been a good customer I'm sure they'll throw something extra your way. Something I haven't seen with AT&T, Verizon, or Sprint.

I'm gonna have to try that and bringing up the sidekick fiasco is a good point. I know that every sidekick user out there was pissed off for a week and many said they were moving on and not buying sidekicks anymore.
