Chat

Our very own thread to discuss and chat about the OS, ROM's, apps from Android Market, our Android phones, tips & tricks, questions, and help issues. With the different phones out now and to be released from various carriers, I figure we all have a lot in common with the Android OS. We can discuss what we like, need help with, what apps are cool or don't work well, as well as questions and help issues. Given that CSR's from the various carriers may know less than we do, this thread is for all of us so we can help one another.

Think I might also abuse Sprint's 30 day thing. Just get the Hero, play with it until the Moment comes out, then see what happens from there.
Q-Bert provided a linly for the Marketplace on the interwebs, so it it easier and faster to search for and find apps you want. Here - linly [cyrket.com] The reviews are there, and I have found the site to be the same as Marketplace. The apps have the QR code so you can just use the Barcode Scanner app to take a pic and go directly to that app on your Hero. Kewl, huh?
For your keyboard, you can calibrate it to be less touchy. Personally I use a pretty light touch and don't make a huge number of mistakes, but it took a few times to calibrate it before it got to where I want it.
I have tried calibrating and it hasn't really helped... my last phone let me actually choose how touchy i wnated the screen to be

OperaMini

SportsTap (just heard about Google Scoreboard, but SportsTap has been working great for me)
TasKiller
Traffic

That's pretty much what I've got so far that I use pretty often.

sportstap worked for me for about 2 weeks but now it won't even work... I tried rebooting the phone, but that didnt help... I will have to reinstall the app. but now that you mention google scoreboard I will try that instead.
my friend got $100
OMG I brushed that off when dwells first showed me the article but now I just told my brother about it and he reminded me that I was having that issue when I first got the phone.........
Kitti, this is a QR code
Basically, it's a 2 dimensional barcode. If you have a barcode scanner app, you could scan that code with your phone and it would take you to the App in the Market Place where you could download it.
For the keyboard, I switched to TouchPal but strangely, it's not showing in the Marketplace for me right now.
But if you can find and install it, give it a shot. I like it a lot better than the native keyboard, I don't make as many mistakes with it.

I agree with using the keyboard makes you better at it. Calibrating helped me a lot, but using it has helped even more. I have not been affected by the text messages issue so I have been able to send and receive texts. I email a great deal too, so I end up using the Hero keyboard big time so I am used to it. May even try the compact qwerty keyboard to see if I can type even faster!
If you got an OS update, you might have to get the latest version.
Has anyone had their barcode scanner pick up a QR code off their monitor?

As a former G1 user (loved it until it got water damage), the Hero is AMAZING. I have owned many many qwerty phones and the G1 iPhone and think the Hero destroys them all in looks and functionality. The on-screen kbd takes getting used to but I can type pretty quickly on it without issue, and the auto-correct is pretty good.
Yeah iphone users, there aren't 4000 app store games about feeding virtual kitties or diner dash clones, but stuff I actually *need* (SSH client, Pandora, facebook) is there and works great.
Actually one shortcoming is tethering, but I may just lay out the $30 for pdanet until the hero is successfully rooted.
The Droid looks nice, but verizon not working in my area coupled with the fact that I HATE THEM makes the hero the easy choice, and the same reception issues with T-mo means no Cliq, though that does look slick as well.
Hey SOB, I saw you say something in another thread about setting up different "profiles" ? Mind getting in and explaining that a bit ?

The only "risk" is if you don't follow instructions.
