This is a very good version of the standard Chinese OEM automatic turntable based on the old Aiwa design. Similar to the Audio Technica LP60X but I think the Sony looks nicer.

Not a bad turntable for the price if you want something easy to use. Some people want a fully automatic turntable and this one fits the bill. That said, I think the Fluance rt 80 is a better turntable for the same price if you don't mind losing the automatic aspect. This sony turntable has an integrated headshell and no counterweight so you are limited to the stock needle if you ever go down the upgrade path. In addition, this turntable doesn't have a ground wire so you need to make sure that the turntable is plugged into the same outlet as your other stereo components to avoid a ground loop hum.

Thanks! That was very helpful. I bought the RT80 for $170 a few weeks ago on Amazon. I chose slow shipping, so it hasn't arrived. Is the RT81 for $212 better?

I am basically a novice with turntables. I plan to pair it with edifier amplified (wired) speakers for sort of a compact setup.

I'm hoping to gift someone a turntable this christmas. I think they will want bluetooth. Is this sony the one you'd get for <$200? I read some iffy things about the audio technica with bluetooth - but that it was also a problem they tried to work on. Should I buy the $175 AT on amazon instead? https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Tech...0625?psc=1

Sorry for the late reply. That 170 is a good deal but if you can find the 81 for 40 or so more, I would take that route. It would seem like those upgrades present would be worth it. The first upgrade I would do after that is upgrade the stylus on the 95 e to a fine line or a nude. The detail retrieval will go up considerably. Best of luck. Shoot me a message if you have any questions or need me to be more specific. I've been in this game awhile but remember how confusing everything was starting out. Whatever the case, you are doing well with the 80 or 81.

I have this Sony. Would the AT LP3BK be an upgrade? I don't use the Bluetooth option at all.
