Several options.

1. You can buy any cheap camera accessory from buydig and user that order number to submit a trade-in form. They will send you an email coupon for about $300 that is good towards a new purchase of sony mirrorless camera.

2. You can submit trade-in form for your existing camera equipment (camera or lens or accessories), they will respond with their offer plus an email coupon for about $300 that is good towards a new purchase of sony mirrorless camera.

3. You can buy sony mirrorless camera at full price, then submit trade-in form with either of above option. They will refund the trade-in value plus the bonus of about $300 on the purchase you already made.

Once you submit the trade-in form and they provide their offer, there is a process to ship your equipment, evaluate the condition you initially mentioned in the form etc to confirm the final offer price.

BHphoto edu, A7C $1418, A73 $1498, A74 $2248, seems almost the same if paying by their credit card.

I am trying to get an a7 riii instead but seems like this trade-in program doesn't apply to it?
Correct, but it does on the A7R IVA and A7 IV. I was looking at the A7R IIIA myself, but ultimately decided on a A7 IV instead. The resolution between the two is close enough for me, the A7 IV has better AF (lower light capable, more points covering more of the sensor), better video features, new menus, & articulating LCD. The only place where the A7 IV really falls behind is the LCD resolution (only to the IIIA, not the III).

Local store had $500 bonus off on A7R III A too on their black friday ad by mistake. I went in to just check it out and they seem to realize the error only after I asked. They honored the price and I got A7R III A for $1498+tax. Canon R6 also went on sale on B&H at the same time but this Sony's deal was too hot to pass.

This is probably going to sound stupid, but here goes:

I just used my OG Canon Rebel (2007) today to shoot some wedding anniversary pics. Came out really good.. I know this camera like I know my own hand. Will going with one if these Sonys really elevate my game, that much? Have optics gotten *that* much better?

It really depend on what kind event/activities you use it for. If you are just taking family photo, even very old 35mm film camera works just fine.

So can you take advantage the latest improvement in camera sensor which mean must better picture quality with high ISO, higher frame rate, high megapixel RAW files, much better autofocus, HD/4k Video, etc? Images that couldn't be caught in low light condition before are now commonplace with much better sensor. It is must easier to take indoor action/sport photo with newer camera.

If you don't care about HD/4k video and you don't need any of the latest features (you just need to take pictures at the same condition as back in 2007 and ok to miss out on some opportunity to take photo/video that only newer camera can capture), then older camera works just fine.

For $1,479.03 - 20% ($295.81) = $1183.22 (used)

Why the A7iii and not A7c?
I agreed from technical point of view, A7c seems to be on average better than A7iii, like A7c has addition of 5Ghz band, better Autofocus, etc. a7C has the new version of Sony's Al-trained subject recognition system while A7iii missing that.

The a7 III is pretty good but not quite as polished, by comparison. Eye-AF works very well but the AF system won't necessarily continue to track that same subject if they look away. Its subject tracking is also less dependable, and tries to follow the whole subject, not necessarily the part of the subject you've specified, making it less precise and less predictable than the a7C's system.

a7C and a7 III have very similar video spec but a7C don't have the recording time limit and combine with better AF, a7C video recording works just a bit better. The A7C can record indefinitely (until the card or battery dies), but the A7 III stops recording after 30 minutes. Another thing is the A7C's ability to save gyro sensor data in video files. And can use this gyro data to stabilize the video using the Sony Catalyst software, and the results are superior to those of in-body image stabilization.

A7c has variable-angle screen, make A7c a tiny camera that works well for travel and vlogging.

But A7iii has better viewfinder which some people may prefer he use of viewfinder in A7iii over A7c. A7iii has 2 cards slot so can record simultaneously in case one card fail. While A7c only has one card slot.

As for Size, some people may want smaller size of A7c but the reduction in size also change the ergonomics. Like location of button, dials are at different location, and also holding of the camera may not be as comfortable for someone with bigger hand. So size and ergonomics are really personal preference.

I get the 7III instead of 7C just because the 7III has 2 separate dials for Aperture and Shutter Speed like a regular camera. Can't bear using a single dial for both
