Seems you may have some misunderstanding about the topic. The article you are referencing is NOT a breach. It's bad people using AirTags to track things or people maliciously. Bad people are deploying AirTags to track their victims. They are NOT using your own AirTag against you. Using or not using AirTags doesn't change your risk of being targeted.
I am an advocate for security awareness by the way, which I think that's what you're trying to do. But people should be armed with the correct information.
No disrespect but based on your logic you shouldn't buy any insurance either, I believe you never had a car accident or serious illness, and yet the risk is still something you probably don't want to take. Yes, Apple products are pricy, but you have to compare them to the alternatives, the only similar mainstream product to airTag is the Tile which is not nearly as useful as artTag.
Are we looking forward to losing our stuff, no, but a fail-save for what if it happens, yes. and this is exactly what your insurance is for.
Terrible deal, people I gave these to last Xmas for this same price still don't trust to install them after the breach. Apple needs to swallow a big load and discount a product for once. $15 a pop is fair

So this is a lie. I have them and when they are set to a phone they won't ask to be assigned to another phone. Been using these over a year now and never had anything like this. Someone left her an AirTag that wasn't programmed…. Come on man. You believe everything you see on the internet.
Lol. If I knew I would train your mom to never lose her keys.
She's 70… be my guest. What's worth more? A $20 tag or the headache, aggravation and grey hair you'd get from your hours of 'training'.
I've never lost my luggage either, but the airlines have.. more than once. In fact it just happened in Sept.
My kid gave me one last xmas. Never opened it. I just don't have a use for it.
It is an Apple product I just don't believe in. Seems like a nuisance tax to buy these things in hopes some day they pay off. I don't know if I would track down someone that stole my stuff anyway. Seems like a bigger risk.
Also for something like car keys or wallet, I have trained myself to not lose those things. Maybe if I was 20 again I might have a use case. But I haven't lost my keys or wallet in over 20 years. Never lost my luggage. I do not think I ever had a bike stolen. My kid did at college. I guess bikes thefts from dorm bike racks were high. Actually he just had his front wheel stolen so air tag wouldn't have helped. …YMMV.

Bro… your kid gifted this to you for Christmas and you never opened it?!?? Show some gratitude to your child and at least open it and show them that you at least tried it. They thought enough of you to get you a gift, show some appreciation even if you dislike it. It's not about the gift but the thought. Plus you may actually end up liking it.

Car remotes cost $350 to replace so my mission in life is to not to ever lose my car remotes!..HA HA!...at 50 years old, I consider myself a responsible guy...but last month walking around San Francisco drinking at various bars, I lost my car keys and had to call my brother to bring my remote to me at 1:00 am! I even put my car remote in my zipped up jacket pocket and they still fell out... Now I can use the AirTags to find my car keys and not bother people at 1:00 am in the morning! I won't have to pay $350 for a new remote for 2018 Honda Civic!
