Do I need a heat shield to use with this SSD for a PS5? Seems like some of the Samsung ones come with a heat shield already built in.

Seems like the drive does run hot according to the reviews so I'd use a heatsink.

So this Gen 4 runs hot and the old Gen 3 was cool and low power.

That is good as I have some of the Gen 3 and won't buy this.

The Hynix Gold (Gen 3) is currently $150. Is it worth the xtra $20 if my computer is only gen 3? I won't benefit from the extra speed.

In for 1. Returning the 980 Pro. The Hynix inches out ahead just a bit in IOPS and etc…

I have the P-31 and it runs fairly cool in a laptop (high 30s to low 40s). I think the P-41 would definitely be higher from what I've read.

Both are hotter than the older samsung I removed though....

PS - Looks like newegg has the samsung 970 evo + for $150 too, but I'd get the P-31 which is what I did a couple of months ago....

No, no benefit.
Your drive will run at the reduced speed of your interface.

Amazing price but the vast majority of people won't notice a difference between this and cheaper drive. If you have a PS5 and need a drive this is a no-brainer.

Go with Gen 4 for 20$ difference if you plan to upgrade in near future.
