I despise this year-to-year software as a service mess these companies pushed many of us into.
I miss the days when you could get this for $20-ish.

I miss the days when you didn't have to renew for three years even more.
For those looking to renew an existing subscription. Here are the rules from Quicken. So you can buy activation code now, and keep it until you are withing 6 months of the end of your current subscription. I am on the fence about pulling the trigger, though. If the activation code doesn't work next October when I go to apply it, I doubt seriously Newegg would give a rat's tail.

How long can I extend my membership plan?
A membership can only be extended in the last six months of a subscription term. Therefore, multiple terms cannot be purchased and used at once to extend a membership. Retail purchases: Activation codes expire 24 months after being generated.

$4 for buying at Newegg??? Or for buying direct from Quicken?
Any site that they have, newegg is one of them. So about $27 (plus tax).

I can't mention the CB site, if you are a member you would have gotten an email about the $4 bonus.

I paid $62.39 at Best Buy last year for this. BB has about the same base price ($71.93), but no promo code.

Last year I purchased 2 of them, entered 1 immediately, and just entered the 2nd one last week. So it is OK to stock up on these and save them for the future. Will it always work? It should, but who knows?

I wish BB matched the promo code. It's a limit of 25 there.

Just use a different email, I have multiple emails, I buy the new users deal every year under the email that I'm not using on the current subscription.
Be careful with the new users only promo. This year I bought one on their website after 50% off promo discount. Created a new account to migrate my previous file and they locked all my accounts and I couldn't get the file unlocked. It kept on displaying "oops something went wrong" message.

Rep couldn't figure out so they refunded and I repurchased yet again with the same discount, another new account. That too got hit with the same log in message right after. So I escalated. 2 days later I get a call from the corporate saying yes they blocked my accounts and my ips (vpn they block automatically). They can see all your accounts you created by referencing and matching your data file, IPs, browser headers, billing addresses, card used, etc. After lengthy interrogation of why I am creating all these separate accounts and verifying my banking/credit card accounts they unlocked my new quicken account.

Tl;dr quicken references your data file to track fake "new users." And they are not happy about ppl buying in for cheap. They could lock your quicken accounts (even the new ones) and you won't be able to open your data file without active subscription potentially loosing all the years of your data. You buying a new sub even at a full price will lead to the same loop as they basically ban you

I wouldn't stock up on too many. I purchased a few years' worth and when I went to use the third one, it said invalid code, When I called Quicken they said the codes are only good for two years after purchase. Obviously couldn't get anything back from the seller at that point so I was out. I argued my case with Quicken that that was not written anywhere but they wouldn't budge other than offering me 10 off of their current price... no thanks.

I sort of agree because subscriptions mean security updates but I do not subscribe to 99% of them.
I am torn. On one hand I like the constant updates and new features, but the yearly fee needs to be more reasonable.

I currently am running 2017, the last Pre-subscription version and have been entering transactions manually, but have a whole bunch of new investment accounts now that have made it a lot of work. Question: If I upgrade to this, I'll be able to download all that info for a year, and then what? After that year can I continue to use the software as I am the 2017 now, manually, or does it blow up or something?

Mine expires 5/23. Can I buy it and put it on the shelf until then and then use it to renew, or will it expire?
Wait a little. Towards the end of the year you sometimes get a bundled deal with tax software that are more optimal overall on total cost for both.

I've made a note in my Notes app based on deals and discussions from past years: 1) As mentioned above the codes can be used within 6 months of of expiration to extend an existing subscription. 2) activation codes expire 24 months after purchase.

I use the deluxe version and it looks like the price is $3 higher than last year. The same deal / price occurred several times last year. I bought it in February and the same sale price happened in every month until May when I stopped keeping track.

From my experience once expired (and you haven't logged out from your expired quicken online account) you can manually enter the transactions, however you cannot import any transactions (from manual file or direct connect) without an active subscription.

Also, if you happen to log out from your quicken account on your app, you cannot use the file any longer. And when you try to log in, it says you don't have active sub etc

Is it still true?
I haven't used the "tax software" plus "Quicken" (or even "Norton" etc). Usually used to be with Newegg.
But that's been many years...
Don't remember seeing those deals lately (but then it could be just me not paying attention Wink

TIA

Thanks! In for 2. Enter one code now, and another 6 months before it expires again.

Any app, including the desktop app. They now tie your specific data file to your online account, even if you decline their offer to move and store your data file to the cloud

Such A-holes. Nevermind, I'll keep doing what I'm doing and use Personal Capital for the Investments. I hate what they've become
