Do I need to delete fi app also after taking the sim out for not messing up with my promo offer ?
It's a good idea to delete it.

Because of trade in excess and ref credit I am now going into 2nd month with $175 credit, any reason to cancel? I wish I did the plus or even the ultra (though not sure how much that was at the time)

I think.....your credit does not expire. So if you have remaining credits and you cancel or port out, the next time you do a Fi deal on that account you'll use those remaining credits.

Thank you. This is good to know!

So I have 8 days left. Wise move is to port out exactly when the 8 days is up or should I try to do deal right away with same account?

No reason to cancel... once your active period is over, you can pause your service for up to 90 days and preserve your credit. You can repeat this though they do have a warning about abuse.

I've been pausing my phones once the promo periods are done and then I re-activate them when I need international data service.

Keeping them paused means that you have the numbers available if you need to do a port in to another carrier.

Thanks. No charge for pausing? Other carriers do. If I do this deal again, do I want to start over with brand new account or use same account?

I've been searching for an "official" statement on whether or not Fi credit expires but couldn't find one.

This link gives some info but not about expiration: https://support.google.com/fi/answer/6209364?hl=en

I know from my personal experience that credit from overpayment (with your credit card) will be refunded in 1-2 billing cycles after cancelling your Fi service. Also, people who have excess trade-in credit had bought another phone on installment and applied the excess trade-in credit toward their due amount.

How much is your reaming credit? I would port out once my counter says zero or once you have something in writing or screen shot that you have met all the terms. And I would not use the same account that I just recently used for a deal to stay under the radar. You can easily make a new Google account.

But using a new account won't qualify you for an "existing Fi member" deal and you can't use any remaining credit. I have three accounts with about $55 credit in each one, enough to pay for 2 months of service.

Hehe, man that's a pretty good amount. Fi has pretty good deals on Samsungs the last few years actually. Just wait for it around this time.

I wonder what their incentive is to offer such good trade-in value on older Samsungs (even broken ones) for new Samsungs. I can understand their high TIV on iPhones for Pixel phones to take customers away from Apple.
