I did turn off updates, but apparently there are some just "required"....not that an update should do that to a TV... So, I'd say "yes" to the extended warranty and keep all emails/invoices/etc for that warranty, otherwise prepare to relive horror stories of trying to get it covered when they can't find it w/o your proof. (Yes, shocking in the age of computers...but they still pull that crap of putting to onus on you to prove you paid them $$ and can't find you in their own system...but magically do once you provide proof </soapbox>)

Isn't that sold out? I bought a TCL 6 series excellent open item and ended up with returning and unable to reorder. I got a unit that doesn't qualify to be satisfactory state but sold by Best buy as excellent.
Depends, Google TV version has few bad reviews vs Roku TV version.
* Love the images, but limited to 60 Hz unless needing gaming or super fast motion. Good for football and basketball, but not as good for flyby text or panning across or zooming landscapes quickly. Unsure if 120 Hz would fix that.
* Dimming great, great blacks, and no blooming highlights over IPS panels, well done; but since it isn't IPS it isn't as good at far angled viewing. Didn't miss a OLED panel.
* Appreciate all functions within Google TV interface, but worried we will never get an update to newer Android versions which provide missing features. Missing picture-in-picture it seems that is on Android 12, etc.
* Love the Dolby Atmos sound (if you have a speaker setup that can handle it), yet great sound anyway.
* For HiSense, when it says 240 Hz Motion Rate it means ÷ 4, so 60 Hz. Other manufacturers use different marketing times for a reality of ÷ 2, etc.

delivery is " Arriving Jan 11, 2023 - Jan 18, 2023"
anyone know if it may get shipped earlier?
I really don't understand why people use smart TV's when you can just grab a $30 (or less on sale) Chromecast. Along with other brands, along with the more expensive higher end streaming boxes.
If I could grab a dumb OLED tv for 800 I rather have that
Absolutely, I bought the TCL 5 Series from BB for $200 as my first 4K & "smart" TV.
Have no intention of letting it directly touch the internet, unless I find out a firmware update improves image quality, even then I'd just turn on a guest WiFi for a few minutes.

People say the r646 is better, but viewing angles are 3x better in the U6H based on data from rtings, which matters more to me on paper since I'm never always directly in front of the tv.
However what does "3x better viewing angle " mean in practice? Not sure, so time to test it out!
