So this low airfare travelling round trip from San Francisco (SFO) to Kaohsiung City (KHH) Taiwan is because of Cathay Pacific's Black Friday / Cyber Monday deal. Not sure why that thread isn't doing well but here's an example from that deal, of a good deal.

Since that thread is already tainted with thumbs down, I'm not going to bury this deal in there.

Travel round trip on Cathay Pacific economy class from San Francisco to Kaohsiung CIty Taiwan for $774, making 1 stop in Hong Kong.

Travel Availability:
Departs SFO: March 6, 13, 20, 27; April 17, 24; May 1, 15
Returns: March 13, 20, 21, 27; April 3, 10, 17, 24; May 1, 8, 15, 22, 29
You may book this directly with Cathay Pacific [cathaypacific.com] or Expedia [expedia.com]. I've provided screenshots for both websites.

sigh.

let's compare apples to apples. first off you're using points. second, you're comparing 2 different cities than what i posted . pvg (shanghai) to la. one way? when?

i mean like, i can say i went to tokyo for $425 nonstop once.
Deal or not, you are not even comparing the same thing. Cash vs points, round trip vs one way, Taiwan vs China, SF vs LA.
Must be nice to have 36k points. I have 0.

Dang, flying from LAX but might be cheaper to buy a separate round trip to SFO to do this.

Literally comparing two different departure and arrival destinations. And hopefully you paid 36,000 for RT else that's a pretty bad redemption.

Also, hope Cathay sticks around - unfortunately a lot of politics behind the airline.

Care to elaborate? I've never had issues at SFO.

Also, I swear it was around $679 on Cathay for a round-trip between SFO-TPE, with a stop in HK just the other day when I checked for my wife. I know it's not the same route but it's practically the same. I just find Kaohsiung to be pretty boring, plus all my friends are in Taipei.

EDIT: Ok, I guess with taxes it's about $728

If you have amex, check if you have an offer for cathay pacific. I had $175 off $1000 on my gold card. Lot of Asian cities on sale too, and it made my 2 tickets to Japan super sweet, from JFK, for May
