10% off on Target gc means only 5% additional % off for redcard holders.

If you have 5% additional statement credit thru Chase Freedom - PayPal route, you get effective 4.5% extra on top of this discounted gc deal making it 14.5% off, or 9.5% on top of red card discount.

Depending on how much you shop at Target annually and your personal cash flow priorities vs need to save the extra % off, you can decide whether to block money in the gc.

If you decide to get in on this deal but also have the red card, you can prioritize to use red card for smaller transactions where red card can get you free shipping. You can select to use the discounted gc for when you're doing store pick up, or 35$+ shipping orders wherein you'd not have shipping charges to deal with anyway.

Hope it helps.

Just a PSA: if you buy the gift card and load it into your target account wallet, make sure you have 2FA for your account login. I received a $300 GC as a gift and realized as soon as I loaded it in a day someone across the country used my login to buy items instore. Target didn't help when I filed a complaint basically telling me to file a police report before they could do anything. Gift cards are harder to chase down of course compared to credit card. It can happen at any store but target's payment and security sucked up until few months ago when they added 2FA.

Edit: to enable 2FA, go to target.com and into your account settings. You can find information on how to enable it here - If you go to target.com and in the account settings, you'll find an option to set email/phone 2FA. More instructions are here https://security.target.com/FAQs#...20account?

Target recently changed their system to allow you to use a partial amount of a gift card on a purchase, so there's no need to buy multiple small quantities for yourself. I pay for most of the transaction with a gift card and then just a few cents with my Red Card to still get free shipping.

Something new I've found during checkout. You can edit the amount of the gift card used so that it's one cent less than the subtotal, and the red card can be used for a penny plus the tax etc. This will give you free shipping.
I had no idea you could do this, that is great.

Valid for a one-time purchase up to $500. I wish they allow more than one purchases total up to $500. I have Target circle bonus offer $30 for 3 orders of $100 or more. Now I can only stack these two offers ONCE. .

It wouldn't work. Target GCs will not trigger it.

I've done this many times over the years. What I dislike is using gift cards void most of the 5% off with the redcard but sometimes free shipping on smaller items is worth it.

Thanks! Have a new credit card that I need to spend $4K on to activate a bonus, so this helped me get a good chunk spent.

Activiate this quarter CB (Amazon and Digital Wallet). Then use one of your digital wallet payment methods to buy the Target gc in the Target app. If you don't have a digital wallet set up, you need to do that first. (I used Apple Pay)

"Digital Wallet purchases include those made online and in-store with your smartphone, tablet, or wearable. Wallets that qualify include Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, and Garmin Pay."
Sorry for the newbie question, but I've now set up Google Wallet, but don't see any way to pay using it in the Target app. I don't see are option to use Google Wallet in the Target app. So how do I pay using Google Wallet, or can I only do it in-store? Thanks.

For the people w/o chase freedom, PayPal is offering 1% cb at target.
Why can't you just use any card for that 1%?

This year, with the high interest rates, the Target deal is less good. A one year US Treasury is yielding 4.7%, making this only a 5.3% gain. If you have the Target Red card and other credit cards that give somewhere in the 2-5% back, it makes this not a deal at all. But I have the Discover card and paid using Apple Pay, so I bought $500 worth of gift card (5% cash back from Discover with Apple Pay this quarter). In the last 5+ years, I would normally buy $2-3K per year.
So you want your money sitting for a year to make 4.7%, vs doing this deal and getting that money immediately?

I think 5% red card discount won't work for target gift cards I think. Isn't it ? I tried and didn't show up 5% red card discount.

Any way you cut it, you are spending $ with Target, but the deal is less good this year due to the high interest rates. And, yes I'd rather have the $ in my bank than floating a loan to Target!

You sound like you have an underlying have a grudge against Target. Your posts make no financial sense.

Wow. I pointed out the posting error on the FP post, and SD secretly erased my post after fixing it.

If using Discover for the extra 5%, be aware of the fine print which says the digital wallet payment (Google pay, apple pay, etc) must be made from your smartphone, tablet, or wearable.

It does not say laptop, PC, or computer.

I got burned recently by this on a previous purchase.

Will buy $500 cards on our each of our two accounts. I suppose you could set up more target accounts to maximize? We have 3 chase freedom cards, so $4500 in eligible PayPal. Would use the credits to buy cricket refill cards when they go on sale. We have $250 monthly cricket bills.
