Black Friday Deal
Amazon [amazon.com] $59.99 (Original $99.99)

These are one of most comfortable headphones I ever worn. The headphone is well-padded with an adjustable headband that doesn't have a high clamping force with over ear cups. The build is great with high quality premium materials. Sound quality is clear, crisp and dynamic. Bass is balance, not overpowering but still there. Mids are natural and warm Treble is bright and sparkly. These headphones not only plays music well but also does good for gaming due to the great soundstage. Most of all the price very affordable for something that sounds so good. Just buy it.

I bought these before, pretty good and comfortable. Ears never get hot. The band eventually broke and I ended up getting a full refund 18 months later. Good idea to buy the extra insurance on headphone purchases.

Depends on how sensitive you are to high treble/sibilance. Personally, I find the 9500's actually hurt my ears after listening to anything with a lot of cymbals, "S" sounds, etc.

The 9600's are tuned to tone the highs down a bit, but at the cost of some detail. While I do think the 9500's sound slightly "better" and more detailed overall, the listening fatigue they cause me makes me prefer the 9600's.

Also the 9600's just fit me better. The 9500's are good for people with larger heads, on me the clamp force is so low they just slide right off my head if I shift my head down too far.

Funny thing is, I didn't really understand why the 9500's were so fatiguing for me until I actually got the 9600's and A-B'd them. Then I was like oh shit, okay, the 9500's are SHRILL.

Although, full disclosure, I don't really use either anymore. I've since switched to some aptX low latency bluetooth headphones which don't sound nearly as good, but the freedom of no wires is just too good for me to give up. I can stand up from my desk without having to interrupt whatever I'm listening to, and not have to be tethered to whatever device the audio is playing from. Can't go back to anything wired regardless of how they sound.

Solid headphones for $60. I picked these up a year and a half ago and they were my gateway drug to higher end stuff. I'm still impressed by how good they sound for the $ and they are my go-to for conference calls (when open back is ok). Super comfy, good breathability, large ear cups. Only downside is somewhat flimsy build and creaking plastic.

These aren't neutral like the 9500's. The upper mids and treble fall off a cliff.

At this price I would go with a hyperx cloud ii's, cloud core or any of the other rebadged takstar pro 80's. Or a AKG K361 on sale or save up for a Sennheiser 560s when it goes on sale $99-$129.

The pads aren't easily replaceable on these.

Interesting.I have been using 9500 for over a year now regularly, and don't find them shrill at all. For me, these have a great balance throughout the spectrum. In fact I liked them so much that I sold my Sundaras recently (nice clarity and highs but way too thin in lower frequencies) and got another pair of 9500. I also listened to a few open-air Beyedynamics and Sennheisers under $300, returned them all for one reason or another.

Headphones are a very subjective choice. People have different ear sensitivities and listen to different types of sources - really have to go through a bunch of them to find what's best for YOU. Gladly companies like Amazon with their generous return policies make the process pretty painless. By the way, SHP9500 are also on sale at $63 [amazon.com] right now.

SHP9500 at $64 or SHP9600 at $60?

I'm looking for a starter pair of wired headphones. Will mostly be listening to jazz, female vocalists, soft rock, 80's alternative, chill and EDM via Spotify. I won't be using a headphone amp.

Just from the the posts above most people seem to prefer 9500. I have no personal experience with 9600 so I am not gonna diss it, but can certainly vouch for 9500 and my listening tastes are similar to yours Smilie
