This headphones are legend in the community, especially at this price point. Not my sound signature (I prefer REALLY bassy headphones) especially for the genres I listen to, but TU and repped anyway.

It was almost 6 years ago and the original drop was $200 (which included a discount for the first drop). If you can get these for $179 now then they've lowered the price over time (particularly when you consider inflation).

This is now considered a great "mid-tier" headphone, but for a long time this was essentially an end game headphone for many people with a proper amp.
What's an upper tier headphone these days? The focals?

How upper do you want to go?

Focal Utopias are up there. There are several other options in the $3000+ range.

Sennheiser HD 800S. NOT the Massdrop 8xx which everyone hates.

based on my ignorant understanding of headphones, this thing has good "mids" but basically has no bass or soundstage. you're probably better off buying an open box sundara for $240.

back when they were trying to kill off the first batch, they had a zeos code that made it $599 or $699 or something. that would have been the perfect time to buy this.

I wanna kill myself for getting these too early at $199... applying a $10 discount to get $189. All because I thought it wouldn't get any lower and that maybe the $179 price from before started a week before Black Friday. If I could've gotten this at $169, I might've been able to skip using a forwarder... fark. (currently $169 should be below the tax-free limit we have in our country... tho I'm not sure if they'd include that $20 shipping cost...)

Ordered it in advance so that maybe it'll arrive on time for the black friday sale of the forwarder but even until now, there still isn't any notification from there.

If you're willing to gamble on HiFiMan build quality, yes the Sundara are likely overall better headphones. I'd trust Senn headphones in the long run, and it's easy to get replacement parts if needed.

Probably a dumb question, but why do they have separate wires going to each side? I feel like that would be annoying. I've used Sennheiser 59x series forever and they only have one wire.

I don't like open backed headphones. I don't need to hear every little ambient sound when I'm listening to music. I need to attenuate some of the outside noises when I have headphones on.

Is $169 with signup coupon the best price ever?
I believe the best ever was $160 a few years ago and included spare pads. This is the best deal since then and I'm going to bite.

Though I'm not seeing the $10 new user discount apply at checkout. Anyone had success with that?

Grab a pair of these or wait for the HD660S to go on sale? I'd only be using them only a home studio.

Is the comment about these having almost no soundstage true?

That is correct. They're not great for gaming but for anything with a lot of vocals, these are absolutely top tier.
