According to reviews, you have to combine 2 ropes to achieve the 96ft, with a max of 2 ropes per plug. I was hoping I could combine more to go around the fence, but looks like that isn't a possibility.

Water resistant and waterproof are very different, these can withstand weather, but not sprays, immersion, or water hitting them at the wrong angle. They will work fine outside as long as you follow the proper placement instructions.
