Yep, that's how I understand it, too.
They're the same. Online is in some respects easier, as you can log in from anywhere, but they never have purchase discounts on it either.

This year is different though, as the download is Mac/PC, and not separate, IIRC, can activate it on two machines.

As for paying to file taxes, if all you need is a 1040EZ, it's free, but as soon as you do more than that, like owning a home, interest rates on loans, investments, it a) gets more complicated, and b) they (Intuit/H&R Block, etc) won't work with your return on the free version, and they'll make you pay for a deluxe version.

$10 digital Amazon gift card included. Not a bad deal for those that don't want to wait and see if it drops down further in December.

Where do you see that the Gift Card is Digital?
Got burned in the past with the Gift card being physical. Frown

Just a warning, I got screwed by TurboTax licensing detections before. I bought the same deal on Amazon a few years back and install it once to make sure license works. Then I factory reset my PC and when I install it agaian to file the tax later on the samw machine but it said that my license already being used no longer be able to use the software. I posted on TurboTax forum and they didn't give a crab about it. I ended pay extra for the online version.

From what I know -- which isnt much, if you sold stocks or any funds and get an 1099-S you need Prem. Maybe other people with knowledge can jump in

Why not do something more productive and whine at your congressional reps rather than in a random internet forum
Wait, y'all aren't in Congress? Why the hell have I been wasting my time here for.

Yes I switched to deluxe some years ago. Premiere is really only for those with rental incomes (depreciation and such) and some business stuff. And you get better support.

Deluxe will be $25ish between now and Feb. Fidelity also gives you free premiere if you are $1million+ but probably a lot of people aren't there anymore Frown

I used Deluxe version last year and it allowed me to import 1099 consolidated information such as trades, dividends, etc.
Same, Deluxe allowed m to import from Schwab and Robinhood without any problems.

This reads like you printed your comment, put it through a paper shredder, and then posted the result.

I have ESPP, RSUs etc. Do I need Premier? Mostly I get necessary 1099 from Vanguard or Fidelity. I have no rental or crypto. FYI, state e-file is additional $20.

BTW, fark Taxact for sharing personal financial info with Meta.

I used taxact and so you have a point in that I didn't try every single free file option so I can only speak to my experience. I'm sure they ask for stuff clearly but they don't really go out of its way to make things easier/maximize your refund

Yea TaxAct is like Turbo tax. They have a "free" option but they make it so bad to get you to pay for one of their other versions. So I agree it probably was awful to use. Smilie

Try https://www.freetaxusa.com/ you might like it. Works as well as the paid versions I have used in the past. That and cost nothing to try as well. I am on my 3rd year using it and have house, bonds, stocks, and even side hustle/business cost.
