It's not junk depending on what you need. For us Turbotax deluxe* is very easy to use with our particular Schedule C business and easily imports our brokerage account information. I tried H&R block one year and I could not get it to properly calculate our business tax credits even after opening a support ticket.

Also - an FYI for those that used TaxAct, H&R Block or TaxSlayer online services in previous years: There is a good chance they secretly sent data about you to Meta\Facebook:

*In previous years there were some abilities you'd get with the physical disk that weren't included in the download copy. I haven't looked this year to see if that is still the case or not

Cause Intuit, maker of TurboTax, and other tax prep software companies have paid off Congress to make sure they don't allow this to happen. It's been contemplated for years and years.

Try https://www.freetaxusa.com/ you might like it. Works as well as the paid versions I have used in the past. That and cost nothing to try as well. I am on my 3rd year using it and have house, bonds, stocks, and even side hustle/business cost.
Nothing is free. To pay for the tax service they sell your data to third parties I am sure if that matters to you.

When you're ready to file, you have the option of printing it out or e-filing. If the latter, you're redirected to TT's website and you pay then.

A single copy can be installed multiple times (5) so even if you installed it once, wiped your PC and then tried to install it again you should have been able to --- unless you also gave the serial to someone else who installed it and shared with their friends, etc. and used up the other 4 install instances before you got a chance to re-install.

Desktop deluxe can handle ALL stock/futures/options/dividends (brokerage) transactions and will import them directly from "select" financial institutions

Desktop deluxe can handle self-employed people with 1099 income (1099-NEC, used to be 1099-MISC) including Schedule C, 179 deductions

If you don't need extra "handholding" there is almost nothing that Desktop Deluxe will not do - Intuit will try hard to convince you that you need something else because they want more money, do not fall for it!

Web/Online deluxe does not have the same feature set a Desktop deluxe.
