This vs Alexa:

Google AI tech is actually much better than Amazon's - at least in my case, it understands me better, gives better answers.
Alexa devices (Echo Show specifically) keep forcing new "features" (read, pitches) down my throat constantly, cluttering the screen with useless crap (just last week - "Alexa games"). This is a gross violation of Amazon's own principle (respecting the client).

This vs Nest Hub 5:

Better form factor as a nightstand alarm clock
Nest Hub is bigger and nicer screen, could be used for casting and showing video.
In the past, Lenovo clocks were somewhat funky, like they changed the MAC address regularly, confusing the hell out of smart routers.
Just ask Siri
A year ago I would have said Alexa 100% but it has gone to complete shit in the interim. Firing half the Alexa group isn't going to fix it. I'm rapidly transitioning to Google home for everything.

Just a note, I purchased this back in July for the same price when Best Buy had it on sale hoping I would get feed from my Google Nest cameras (since it claims to be compatible there). It didn't work and doesn't work to do anything other than have an alert chime and text on the screen saying someone is at the door.

I'd rather just spend a few extra dollars and get the Google Nest hub 2 pack for $80 from Costco (for those that have memberships) to ensure compatibility. Also has a bigger screen, can watch videos, etc.

Can this show Ring cameras or announce person at driveway etc. ?
The Lenovo site claims compatibility but I can't find anyone else backing this up. This is a Google device, not Alexa so you'd be better off getting an Echo Show 5 for basically the same price: https://www.amazon.com/Echo-Show-...B08KJN3333

I'm looking for one with a camera that will allow me to use Google Meet with the grandchildren if anyone has seen a deal.

One thing missing that I love about the Echo (I have several alexa and google products - neither is perfect and each do their own thing OK at best) - is that the Echo has a audio out jack, so it's dead simple for everyone to play music out of the echo to stereo in the kitchen through a proper stereo rig (amp & speakers that wife and kids can work it without having to call daddy). Of course, that doesn't matter for an alarm clock use, but great as a simple streamer.

Alright everyone. Tell me why I should buy this (Google assistant) over an Alexa equivalent or why I should buy an Alexa equivalent over this (or Google assistant in general)
I'm strictly a Google user. All day, every day. I had Alexa in my car (for a short while!) and asked Alexa where the nearest Chinese takeout was. Now, I live in Georgia, and she said, "The nearest Chinese takeout restaurant to your location is 2000+ miles away in San Francisco, CA"!!! Typical response from Alexa. My opinion.

Each one has it's own ecosystem. For Google until recently it was Duo that was the way to chat with others using an Assistant device (now it is supposed to be Meet, but I haven't tried it). For Alexa-based devices, Amazon has it's own communication technology, which AFAIR is keyed on Amazon account.

These don't interoperate, so you will have to use whatever the rest of the group is using. For a similar reason, I'm keeping one Echo Show device around to show me Ring doorbell videos when someone is around.

I'm sticking to my 4 Alexa devices, they work great. The clock and alarm on my white Echo 3 is really good and wakes my up with Bill Evans Jazz.
And you can turn off suggestions from Alexa if you want

Any word on whether this will be a Matter controller/border router? If not, the Nest Hub 2nd Gen may be a better choice, for a little more money.

The nest hub is not meant to be an alarm clock. It has no battery backup in case the power goes out, and the alarm won't work if your wifi is disconnected. It's not exactly reliable if you want something with the functionality of an alarm clock by your bed.

i believe the alarm on lenovo's first gen clocks will still work if you get disconnected from wifi.. but not too sure about this one.

the light sensor in these things is not as good as the google nest hub, had two units with the same "issue". the screen will either glow ultra bright or will be too dark to be seen at night. other than it's a pretty decent unit for $30+ bucks

Just an FYI for anyone buying.
I have the first generation Lenovo smart clock and they are notorious for display issues. Some sections of the display stopped working suddenly. For e.g. 70 degrees F temperature will look like 10 degrees F. Samething with the time digits also. I have searched in other forums and there are similar discussions on this. Looks like it a well known problem. And ofcourse, this happens right ater the 1 year warranty. I mean they have hardly any functionality, fairly static not portable like a cell phone/laptop so technicallly they should run problem free for years. . I have a 10 inch Lenovo display and that has a microphone problem. It wont respond promptly for Hey Google command. So I have serious doubts on lenovo quality..
