For anyone that wants to be able to fix their own machines when they inevitably die, you may want to steer clear of Breville. They are notoriously built for "one use" only, meaning they have proprietary screws and parts and are built in such a way as to intentionally keep you out and keep you from replacing what is probably a very inexpensive part.
As someone who has taken apart two different, VERY complex superautos, and rebuilt, I definitely frown on this practice. It's wasteful for one, and anti-consumer for another. Gaggias and their ilk are great IMO not because they produce any better shots than this would, but for that primary reason.

I went with the Bambino Plus and a Sette 270. I wouldn't want to be held back from the grinder but I do like the idea of the Barista Pro as an "all in one" solution... Much cleaner look.
The newer units may have this issue fixed with redesigned parts, but it's unclear. Buyer beware.
That's the one you want along with a quality grinder whether manual or electric.
Yes, now they do, but that's a fairly recent change for the better. When I bought my Plus I had to buy an unpressurized basket direct from Breville. I think it was $5.

From reviews it has the same espresso making capabilities as something like the Breville Touch as the technology is the same. It heats up and is ready to go in 3 seconds and the timing on this has been confirmed. The steamer is the same one found in the Breville Touch and is more categorized as an automatic steamer which is great for someone who just wants good steamed milk made for them and doesn't want to bother learning how to steam milk to advance their Barista skills.
The only downsides are that there is no integrated grinder and the portafilter is 54mm (I think the majority of Breville machines come with a 54mm portafilter). From my research 54mm is smaller than the average 58mm found in professional espresso machines and this affects the flow rate/pressure/extraction of the espresso. Again, I'm not a coffee aficionado so I probably wouldn't be able to distinguish a latte made with a 54mm vs a 58mm portafilter.
As for grinders bottom line is that if you want good espresso, or the "god shot" (I can't believe this is an actual term) consensus states that you need a really good grinder. Decent espresso grinders, such as the Baratza Sette 270, start at around $399 (ones considered good and great are EXPENSIVE). From my research regular coffee grinders can't grind beans fine enough to get good espresso .
All reviewers say the integrated grinders, in models such as the Breville Barista Pro and the Barista Touch, are "trash". To combat the grind inconsistencies in the integrated grinders, double walled, pressurized portafilters are commonly provided with consumer espresso machines. This gets really scientific, and again, I'm not expert so can't confirm but general consensus says to buy a non pressurized basket (I think they run about $15 on amazon) to replace the pressurized one that comes with the bambino plus. Edit: I read some comments here and the Bambino Plus already comes with non pressurized baskets
There are much more espresso educated and if they can add (or debunk/correct) any info please let me know but these are the findings from my investigation on the Bambino Plus. Hope this helps.
Also... for what it's worth I paired my machine with a Niche Zero grinder and the results have been fantastic.
There are almost never any deals with the niche huh? Have to order from them directly?

Not included are the machines that normally sell for more than $1100 (the Barista Touch is the top model on sale). The Infuser and the Duo-Temp Pro aren't on sale either. The Barista Express Impress is already sold out.
Curse!!
That's cool. The Bambino Plus is sold out, but most of the other Breville machines they sell are going for 20% off.
After some trial and error with grind size and amount, I was quite happy with the espresso I get from this. I use a capresso grinder with it, and while it isn't ideally designed for the grind of espresso, it works just fine for my casual use case. I do end up cleaning it and re-dialing in grind-size anytime I change the beans I use however.
My only complaint is the portafilter that comes with it has a plastic guide in it, not a fan of boiling hot liquid interfacing with plastic personally, so I ripped it out. Unfortunately, the portafilter has nozzles in it so it results in an extra cleanup step.
If you have the budget for it, grab a compatible open bottom portafilter.

ETA:
Thanks for this. I am going to get that bambino then. I think the gaggia would be worth buying in a couple of years, I need to ease into this hobby, and figure out what to do with some of my older equipment
There are other differences like the thermojet heating system which is only featured in the bambino plus and the pro. You're good to go in 3 seconds on the plus vs 30 on the regular.
