These things are terrible in a dark room. I bought one a few months ago and had to send it back because of that. There's an "adaptive brightness" that can't be turned off so if your room isn't bright enough then the clock can get too dim to see.

Please note, this is the Alexa enabled version vs the Google Home enabled version.

I stopped buying Alexa products a long time ago when I asked:

Me: "Hey Google, how long does it take to get to <some other town>?"
Google: "By car, it will take you X minutes with current traffic."

Me: "Alexa, how long does it take to get to <some other town>"
Alexa: "I can tell you that <town> is X miles away, but because I don't know how fast you're going, I can't tell you how long it will take."

Many reports of the screens dying after the warranty expires. Mine hasn't yet. Yet.

I have Gen 1 of this and it stinks. Had 4 of them, threw away 2 because the LCD stopped working. Very common for these devices. Not sure if Gen 2 is better but I will never buy again. Moved to Echo Shows and never looked back!

Disappointing to learn that it can't be used as an intercom with Amazon Echo devices.

Anyone know if the Echo Show 5 can reasonably be used as an alarm clock?

I am using Samsung phone made outside of China. Of course it's hard to avoid all products from China. However, Lenovo is a Chinese manufacturer and makes products in China vs. Dell, for example, is an American company, making products in China and other countries.

Amazon recently laid off their entire hardware division, so this might be the last version of Alexa you see

I like the clock because it keeps the right time. I didn't need it for music. I wish the time will be displayed in red.
THIS!!! It drives me bonkers that alarm clocks in bedrooms act more like nightlights. They need to come with a red display, or at least an option to switch to red. I won't get a bedroom clock without a red display. White or Blue can light up the whole room. NO THANKS! I wish manufacturers would catch onto this!

I was desperate for an alarm clock a few years ago as my old one broke, so I picked up one without realizing it had a white display. Since it cost nothing and I needed it for the next morning, I took a red permanent marker and colored the entire display area with it... and I still have it! It's shocking how good it turned out. If you don't look hard, you can barely tell it didn't come that way. A DYI pro-tip for anyone else who's in a bind! lol

Lol - Google is no better. I have Android Auto in my car and I live in Saint Paul MN. When I want to go to Rochester MN 90 minutes away and I want to use Google Maps (although I know how to get there, I like to have navigation in case of traffic, closed roads, etc) and say "Rochester", it can ONLY find Rochester NY ! So if using Google voice, I would have to think of a unique location to say to Google that only exists in Rochester MN to get it to work correctly.

I'm not sure. The Verge review says that intercom not supported (https://www.theverge.com/23283994...exa-review):

And while you can do standard stuff with the voice assistant — set timers and alarms, listen to music and podcasts, control smart home devices, use Alexa skills — as a third-party speaker, it lacks a lot of basic Echo functions. For example, it doesn't work as an intercom (except with other Lenovo clocks) or with Alexa calling features.
There is also a customer review on Amazon that says it can't do intercom.

But there is a question on Amazon where someone said that drop in is supported:

Thanks!
I'd not trust the amazon answer. It's the same behavior with ecobee thermostat. If it's supported Lenovo would have mentioned it for sure. I too think it's not supported

If the % is even that low. Even with that, the components are surely made in China. Even the i-Phone is made in China.
