The TPU benchmark I mentioned in the OP has the WD SN570 close to SK Hynix P31 and Samsung 980 for relative performance. Quite impressive given that this is sold as a budget NVMe SSD that uses HMB (no DRAM).
I already own one and figured someone else might be interested if they missed out on BF deals. It was the same price during BF as well.
The one downside to keep in mind is that sustained writes will slow down. I was able to transfer 40-60GB games at about 1GB/s average, transferring 1 at a time.
I have an aging Lenovo which appears to be having a hard drive issue (internal m.2 SSD).
I could find NO specs on it, and when I called Lenovo, the support person told me I would need a new board to install a new m.2 SSD.
Through reading several sites online, I think what I need is:
2TB m.2 Gen 3 x2 2280 (though it sounds like x4 should also work, but my machine will not take advantage of the extra data lanes). Note my original m.2 size is smaller, but I want to increase the size to 2TB.
Given the above specs (assuming they are accurate), should this SSD work in my laptop?

In a case like yours where there's no definitive information online, I'd try the search tool on crucial.com to find compatible parts. It was able to find parts for my 11 year old laptop I wanted to deck out so I'd hope it works for you too, especially since it sounds like your device is definitely newer.
Also, you can just open it up and check the currently installed drive(s). Assuming you have support for at least gen3 NVMe drives, it should be fine with a potential performance hit due to the reduced lanes you mentioned. I have a WD Blue SN570 installed in a laptop and desktop currently. Both are running very cool so it seems to be a good fit for laptops in particular.
PS this expired but there are new bundle deals directly via WD now.
