New sub-$100 basses are real pieces of shit. Most decent basses have an MSRP of at least $300 nowadays.

Kinda like getting a Ryzen 9 or i7- 13000 and not overclock.

Exactly. I just picked up bass this year but must say I have enjoyed the feel of every Ibanez I tried. I have a Sire Marcus Miller 4 string.. but this really tempts me at that price. I agree 100%.. if you only have a budget of 100 bucks find a 300 used. If you have 200 and want 5 strings this would be a solid buy.
I was tempted to go the Mark Sandman route and start with 1 string.. then promote myself to two.

Good point. It is almost always better to buy used. It's not very uncommon to be able to buy $700 basses for $300 if you step away from Fender and Ernie Ball, but I totally get that there are extenuating circumstances that make new more feasible. As far as dirt cheap 5-string basses go, one could do worse. Even if a person ends up not liking this bass in the long run, being able to take on a cool new hobby is worth it.
The one thing I'll note for those considering this is that most Ibanez basses have narrow string spacing at the bridge. Guitar players switching to bass often like this, but bass players starting on traditional 19mm string spacing will find the Ibanez 16.5mm spacing tight. Plenty of people learn to slap well on Ibanez basses, but they are more difficult to learn to slap on.
I utilize the 5th string for heavier 00's songs in low drop tunings (paired with my 7 string Ibanez).
I prefer to play gospel, funk, soul, metal with a 5 string and playing rock music with a 4 string. It's all about preference.
