What panel would you suggest for gaming? I'm just now getting into gaming (PS5)with monitors but not sure which panels is the best?

OLED is the best. I think you meant to ask which is better between IPs and VA

For those who say VA panels aren't as clear or have display issues, are you using the optimal connection? It seems that some monitors have better DP ports than HDMI for example. Might that account for the big difference?

I'm currently using a 27" 5k display iMac. I like the larger screen size and unfortunately all the new M1 iMacs are only 24". I'm considering just doing a Mac Mini and buying a monitor separately. Would this be comparable, or would I need IPS or OLED to match the iMacs display?

Might have to give it a try yourself (free returns). I just got a Samsung VA ultrawide and am getting eye strain with text.
The same issue with Samsung ultra wide VA panel. The text was killing me. I returned it and bought a LG ultra wide IPS panel. It is 60HZ though and I only use it for work.

I'm not a gamer. Looking for an unltra-wide for mostly work with multiple windows with graphs, sql clients, spreadsheets and browsers. I would like to use it for watching movies as well.

Is it better for me to stick to VA or IPS?
You would never have known there was a difference, were it not for people here acting like it's a life-or-death decision.

Modern VA and IPS monitors are both great, and the differences are meaningless to 95% of people reading this

This. Same thing goes with curved vs flat. People act like your head will fall off if you get a flat ultra wide. I use a flat 34" WQHD VA panel for work and have zero complaints.

For work, I prefer IPS for the better colors and viewing angles.

I'd rather put up with a little ghosting than have to deal with IPS glow. VA all the way.

If OLED is out of the question, then you're looking at trade-offs.

VA panel will get you darker blacks, so if you plan to game at night in a dark room a VA panel may be better.

IPS panel will give you better viewing angles and richer colors, so if you plan to play local co-op or with the lights on, an IPS panel may be better.

Monitors in this price range, regardless of panel, have mediocre HDR performance - like entry-level budget TV HDR. They don't get that bright, they lack local dimming for better contrast, and the colors aren't that rich and vibrant. Unfortunately, you don't get good HDR performance in monitors until you're spending what feels like way too much on a monitor.

Consoles can't take advantage of ultra-wide screens, so a monitor wider than 16:9 will have black bars on the sides.
