How does this compare to the TeamGroup 512GB drive (TM8FP6512G0C101) for $30 in the other thread?

The p3 is qlc. So endurance will be worse and some workloads will have much worse performance.

Think referring to an nvme with DRAM cache. For gaming it doesn't make a difference. It helps speed things up if you are moving a large amount of data around frequently.

Do these need heatsinks? My mobo only came with 1 and I'm using it already on another nvme

For my 2018, Mac mini computer, I'm currently using a 1 TB NVME ssd drive, mounted inside an Otherworld Computing, "envoy express" thunderbolt enclosure.

i'd like to get the 2TB version of this deal to put in that enclosure, and keep using as a boot drive, but I'm pretty confused if this is the type of drive, that would be appropriate for that type of use, and would allow the computer to run nice and fast when being used as a boot drive?

Exactly. For gaming on a laptop and PC computer (not PS5) what you need is something that doesn't get hot and a dram-less storage is cooler. I suggest the 2TB frontpage deal below for $110. It is backorder but you can order it now and ETA is December 6.

https://slickdeals.net/f/16184341-2tb-solidigm-p41-plus-pcie-gen-4-nvme-m-2-qlc-internal-solid-state-drive-110-free-shipping?

"Solidigm officially formed in December of last year as part of the larger Intel-SK hynix deal that found SK hynix buying Intel's NAND and SSD business. Solidigm is a subsidiary of SK Hynix"

"Solidigm backs this with a five-year warranty and 400TB of write endurance per TB of capacity" (so it would be 800TB of write endurance for 2TB). "This level of write endurance is fairly good for QLC, easily beating the (i.e. Crucial's) P3 Plus.

I went with the Solidigm P41 Plus and it's benchmarked on my PS5 as 3,500MB/s.

Tested it for the past few days without any perceivable slowdown compared to running games off the internal NVMe drive.

This whole 5,000MB/s thing is nonsense for gaming reads / writes.

I've also installed a nice aluminum heatsink shroud (2 pack for 10 bucks on Amazon to keep the drive cool inside my PS5.

At $110 you can't go wrong with it.
Nice user experience statement on the SOLIDIGM

Pair this with a cheap 10Gbps USB-C enclosure and it will be faster than 99% of other flash drives.
