I bought one of these when they were on sale last week. It is a great value at this price.

That being said, this is the 5th Fender guitar I have bought from Adorama and 4 out of the 5 have been in a similar condition when they arrived. They are always in boxes that have been opened and re-sealed. They always have the tags and accessories included but often show light wear. No more than you would get if you bought a guitar that had been on display in a store but very different than when you buy from a normal online retailer. I have always wondered exactly what the nature of Adorama's deal with Fender is. This next part is only speculation on my part, but I have always wondered if these are guitars that come back to Fender from the retail channel and then are sold to Adorama.

Either way, not a huge deal but something to be aware of if you are picky about such things.

Other than that, the guitar is great. I am not sure I love the v-mod pickups but that is just a matter of personal preference.

It did come with the trem arm tip broken off. I messaged Adorama but they have not gotten back to me about that yet.

I would like to say that the above text completely describes my experience with Adorama as well. About 7 months ago I got an American Original 60's Jazz Bass in apple candy red from them and the instrument arrived in a crumbling, dried and faded out, scotched together, not factory sealed, tired looking original fender box (not double-boxed). The instrument had all the tags but gave the impression that it had been opened and used before, the guitar had a paint defect near the bridge (paint flaking off). Now, kudos to Adorama they took it back no questions asked, but, still, it made me apprehensive when it comes to buying musical instruments from them again.

Maybe try a D string temporarily to see if the nut slot is too large for a G string? Or at least lay a D string on the slot and see if it fits. For what it's worth the G string is the one I have the most problems with on my guitars (no pun intended!)..
When fretting, all the way down, the buzz/deadness is still there (way worse than open), even when using a G7th Perf 3 capo on the first fret locked down hard (great capo BTW, very clean tones but a bit sharp when doing this of course), which should eliminate the nut. On that note, the nut was cut very nicely, perfect string height over the first fret, and it seems to be slotted perfectly as well. I slopped in some nut sauce anyway, didn't matter, don't have any tuning issues, hear pinging, or anything like that. I will try the wound G, that's a good idea, and if it works I have no problems running that way.

You're 100% right- I don't know what it is though I guess it goes back to being a 12 year old kid drooling over the American standard in guitar center in 1994. I am just partial to USA fenders and Gibson's and I always have been. I had a PRS 594 that may have been one of the nicest constructed instruments I ever owned but when I got my r9 I gave it the boot. The prs was easily on par with the r9 and half the cost but it didn't outweigh my sentimental preference.

Bought a MIM strat in the late nineties in white…..fast forward 20 + years…it has turned into a cream yellow patina color… it rarely gets played and even has the original sticker on the back plate and original strings…..

I realize this is of little value to the thread but there it is anyway. woot

True there is better stuff for the money….

Prolific legendary studio bass guitarist Carol Kaye said her Fender bass was not a particularly fine instrument in construction, compared to great/more expensive bass guitars. She said she owns/owned lots of finer bass guitars. But those "nicer" or even boutique guitars all stayed in their cases on studio days because she'd mostly use her "mediocre" Fender when cutting hundreds of now-classic songs, due to the particular sound a Fender bass provided. Luckily she wasn't a brand snob, but instead prioritized achieving a certain desirable sound.

Oh wow, my Fender box from Adorama arrived like that this week as well. I thought it got damaged by UPS. The guitar and case were fine after opening, but it looked pretty bad. I actually sent the a picture prior to opening and they went along with the thought that it was shipping damage lol.

Picked up a white HSS MIM Strat on Black Friday for $560. Is this guitar worth $700 more? Feels like I wouldn't need this level of instrument unless I was significantly more skilled and/or recording in the studio and gigging regularly.

On objective merits I would say no. The MiM standard strats are generally good instruments.

Even if you were recording or gigging I am not sure you would *need* this upgrade. Many people perform and record with less expensive instruments.

It is more about what you want and what inspires you.

That being said, if you really felt you needed an upgrade an interesting option would be to grab a loaded pickguard from Fender using their 30% deal today.

Perfect answer- I am by no means a professional. I wouldn't even consider myself a gigging amateur. With that said I own a Gibson custom shop r9, an American pro Strat, and now just ordered another pro ii Strat and am trying to snag the deal on the pro ii tele if it comes up. My collection is actually light at the moment too. Some people like expensive cars. Nobody NEEDS a luxury car. No one NEEDS a $10k Rolex. A $50 timex will get the job done in 99% of the situations you'll be in. I enjoy playing my guitars as well as buying/selling/trading them and it's one of my few hobbies. Nothing wrong if you enjoy playing $500 MIM strats either. Hey if it puts a smile on your face and you enjoy it get whatever you want with your hard earned $$$

Is electric guitar same learning curve as regular guitar?
electric is easier for me just because the strings arent as thick. But its a marginal difference if you know how to play.

Does anyone know how this adorama discount works? It seems I can only see the discount when I click on the slick deals link. I'm only asking because I DO NOT want to miss any deals on the American tele. I've been hawking the site for two days and I would just like to know how the heck to spot it. If I go straight to the site and filter the fenders by discount > 25% the on sale colors show in the search but the prices will not reflect even when added to the cart. Only if I go back and click the slick deals link. Just want to make sure I'm not missing anything!

Add "&emailprice=t" to the end of the URL when you pull it up directly on their site, and if it is included in these sales, the price will change

It still says "closeout" on the page for the mercury tele so I'm gonna keep trying that and hope that it comes back, thanks

Sale price ends on 12/04/22
And it looks like the 3 color Sunburst is no longer available.

Anyone know if Musiciansfriend will match the price? Adorana credit card gives 5% off but MF rewards is 8% back.

They will certainly be open to negotiation. Especially if you call them. I am not sure they will come down that low but it doesn't hurt to try.
