Hard to imagine the 800 provides 25% better sound for the 25% increase in cost. My guess would be marginal sound. I thought I read some other SDer posting a comparison of the two on an old thread but I can't find it. The user basically said he kept the 700 because sound quality was marginal. This is still tempting for me because I like the white option and slim look but I was also hoping to connect an old Sonos Connect to the optical input so the lack of that might kill the deal for me.

Sonos playbar is great if you want an all in 1 solution. (Overpriced, however, very good)
If you want atmos, thats a big selling point for me, I like the upfiring rear speakers, the elevate was the cheapest option. I think I paid around 500 for it.
The M series premium is also good, just lacks the rear height speakers, but the overall surround is great. (also has Earc and HDMI 2.1 passthrough)
I demoed the Klipsch 1200 series, It was too much. Price, performance, clutter, speakers all over.
If you have an LG setup, the SP8YA is a significant upgrade to these. Open box at bestbuy are 199 vs 799 MSRP. Rears are $99.
Drivers are small, have a narrow sound range in the higher frequencies, and do not produce a round sound stage.
The rear speakers are a joke. Imagine adding some 1990's computer speakers to a soundbar.
Theyre quiet, don't add any height, and have a massive power cable for each speaker.
If someone paid $900 for their soundbar and $250 for the rear speakers, they have to be seriously disappointed. (I spend a lot with Samsung, their reps offer me tons of stuff, they set my expectations low on this)
Buy a bar with larger drivers.

Most of my guests don't even notice it is there.
It also sounds very good. Not blasting loud, but I was more interested in the quality of sound anyways.
If you are not pressed for space and do not need to mount it on the wall, I would go for something bigger and more expensive, that will have a bit better sound. For me though, sounds pretty amazing already, compared to my horrible sounding Vizio TV.
