I would just use some channellocks on a PVC cleanout, but this should work, too. Just feels like overkill.

Ah, gotcha — yeah for metal then definitely something burlier like a proper pipe wrench. I've only ever lived in '70s houses, so metal pipes are foreign to me
I worked with plumbers for like 20 years and never met one that used these offset wrenches nor needed one
If it has a square cap a big cresent wrench will work.
