You obviously haven't been following the other samsung threads, this is the lowest they have been at best buy, and if you're smart you can buy used phones online and trade them in for a superb deal.

Sigh, my rep in my city said the trade in would not be applied instantly and would require calling t mobile to get monthly credits. I showed him that it says it should be applied instantly but he didn't want or know how to do it and basically wouldn't do it so now I have to travel 25 minutes to try at a different Best Buy.

Does not matter what plan you have as there are no plan restrictions. However the crack could be a problem. Only way to find out if they will accept the cracked phone is giving it a shot.

I had to activate the esim by enabling it in the phone before I could get option to port. So if you dont have a phone which has esim capability this esim activation process may not work for you.(I am not 100% confident)
Actual Tello esim activation and porting process should take less than 15 mins if you have all info handy.

Are you sure that even creating a new account with T-Mo and porting-out the same day would net zero fees? I'm afraid in that case you'd be slapped with an activation fee and prorated fee for that single day.
I signed up for new T-Mobile account with only a single line and cancelled it next day.
I dont know about the activation or any other fees yet as I cancelled it today may have to wait for statement/bill to generate.

My question has nothing to do with line activation but just straight up trade-in for an unlocked phone. What do I need to do first?

1. Order the phone and do the trade in online (that will give me a lower TIV)? And then when I pick up phone, will I l get the Enhanced TIV (promo + TIV)?
2. Or is it advisable to just do everything in store (buying the phone and trading in old phone)?

I am buying an Samsung A53 5g unlocked for a Galaxy S8 (trade-in) with shattered back cover.

Sorry, forgot to include that I activated on Sprint/T-Mobile. I'll update my previous post. I think the only thing you lose from activating later is the $150 discount on the phone.

Someone else mentioned this issue previously. There is an error in the Best Buy system where that phone doesn't show up in the first menu of trade in options. The rep that was helping me opened up a larger list of phones that had the S20 FE listed.
