I do this all the time in the morning while in bed so I don't even have to open my eyes.

The general consensus seems to be that Google is much better for asking random questions, while Alexa is much better for controlling smart home devices. Devices that were near flawless for me on Alexa would bug out multiple times every day. I'd get the "something went wrong. Try again later," response 30 seconds after I told it turn a device on/off most of the time. From the Google Home subreddit, it appears to be a problem they've had for a few years that Google doesn't know how to fix. There's multiple posts per day of people trying to find a solution with no help from Google.
The sound quality of the Show 8 is 10 times better than this.
The Nest hub will randomly reboot.

While everything in the Google ecosystem works, technically, myself and a lot of other people in the Home subreddit have been having some bad reliability issues and none of us have really been able to entirely solve them.
I've been dealing with a 5-10 second delay in response/action when it comes to controlling my home's lights, sometimes multiple Google Home devices in my house (I've got 12, including 3 hubs) will respond at the same time, causing errors from all but the one that fulfilled the request, and sometimes they just won't hear me and I'll have to repeat what I want a half-dozen times before Google finally gets it. These were never problems in the past.
On a whim, I connected my smart home to an Ecobee with Alexa on it and was surprised to find that it pretty much had the light on by the time I finished my request. Like Google used to work. Not sure if this is a "grass is greener on the other side" issue or if the problem is solved, but if you're controlling lights, just keep in mind that you may (or may not) have issues.
In the meantime, as silly as it is, I'm keeping both. Homes to query/chromecast music around the house, Alexa devices to control the lights.
