I'd love IHOP but the prices near me are absurd imo. The classic pancake combo is $16 near me. A 5 stack of basic pancakes is $12.30. Flavored pancakes are $14.... that's all before taxes and the tip as well. Good deal at 20% off for the gift cards of course though.

It still comes down to.. if you plan to go to IHOP and spend that amount of money in the near future, you are just better off getting this deal. It's still 20+% off. I buy gift cards if I'm actually going to use it in the near future with that particular retailer. I don't understand those who hold onto them for over a year.

But either way, you are going to either keep the $40 in your pocket, use it to buy whatever (you claim and assume "bargain" shop), or invest.
