Thumbs up for OP, but the experience i had with this phone, I would avoid.

Again, my experience only. Bought this phone for the wife in early April, right after it came out. Phone was very good, snappy, 5G, the wife was happy. Then late-October, she shows me that the battery is swelling and it's popped the back of the case open slightly. OK i think, it's under warranty, so i create a case with Samsung and send it off for free. All seems good with the world. Then Samsung care emails me saying that because of the damage, it'll be $79 dollars to repair. WTF, the battery is covered under warranty for 1 YR? Send some emails and finally am told that the battery is covered fully, but the plastic case back got damaged (cracked) from the swelling and that replacing that part is $79 as it is not under warranty. I told them I'm not paying them a cent since THEIR sh*t quality battery swelled up and broke the cheap plastic back. They of course disagreed, and I told them just send the d*mn thing back, they are not getting 1 more cent from me. Anyway, now i have a broken phone in a box lol.

Good news is that we had a spare phone, so no issue for the wife, and we actually got her a Pixel 6a from the Google Black Friday sale at a great price after trade in of an older Pixel 3aXL. Much better phone and she's happy.

So, thanks to the OP but I would avoid this phone only from my personal experience.

Take care all.

If you can still get the pixel 6a for 299, I think you will enjoy it much more. I did the metro deal a few months back, and I would never want this phone as a daily driver. I also got in on the Slickdeal for the TCL 4X 5G I think it was called, and that was even better than this galaxy a53. Just my two cents.

There is nothing wrong with A53. Battery swelling is a known problem with samsung phones. It happened to me twice. once with a galaxy S7 and then with S20+. Samsung does not want to take responsibility for this problem. I bought replacement berry and back cover from ebay and fixed it myself for a fraction of the repair cost.

What's this with activation bs? I thought the whole point of being unlocked was you could do whatever with the phone. I'd like to use this phone with cricket but I guess this deal requires you to also pay for a month of service with another carrier first, correct?

Yeah, and this costs more than S22U deal. < $90 broken Flip3 got you a 128GB S22U for under $110. Around 200 for 256GB I think. Tax was also refunded post credit.

It's important to use search around black Friday and make deal alerts. They had $300 Sennheiser headphones for $97 (price mistake).

Battery is underwhelming on the 6a, worse than my old OnePlus 8. Speaking as an owner. Signal could be much better. Idle drain is high due to bad modem and inefficient hardware. Camera is great but phone needs work.

Some interesting choices made in the design of this phone. I picked one up with the $100 Metro deal. Great screen, snappy performance. Doesn't have memory card or headset jack, which seems to be the trend to imitate that bad aspects of apple. What is befuddling is the decision to replace a metal, glass, or matching plastic back (which costs ten bucks on ebay) with a piece of super cheap and thin back. Not surprised it instantly cracked with battery swelling rather than lifting off. Sure, most people will put a cover on it anyway, but really?!

Btw, in the past, Samsung had sales on screen replacements for $50. When my old s9 spontaneously cracked after I saw the deal 😉 they were kind enough to replace the battery and back.

Moto stylus 5g 2022 is probably the better phone for the price.

The cpus are nearly the same and the moto does better on games since game developers optimize for the 695 rather than the exynos this has. In addition the moto has 256gb and a headphone jack.

Only get this if you must get Samsung

Does the stores charge extra for port in? Or just $49 total!

Yes. They wanted to charge $20-30ish for a new SIM, and more annoyingly wanted to charge sales tax on the original/MSRP $499 price - which is about $50 in CA (just because their computers seem to be set up that way).
In other words - at the end it is actually more expensive to try to get the $49 deal in the store, than just order it online for $99 (plus $10 tax).
